Malaysia on track to get orders of Airbus A400M military transport aircraft

Malaysia, which had ordered four Airbus A400M military transport aircraft, is likely to receive its orders on time, according to Airbus Military defence capability marketing vice-president Peter Scoffham.

It had been reported earlier that Malaysia, which placed its orders for the planes in 2005, could receive the four aircraft in 2016 from the original 2013.

“It (the delivery of the A400M) may still be 2013,” Scoffham said at a briefing on the sidelines of Singapore Airshow yesterday.

It was reported previously that the Malaysian government and Airbus Military signed a RM2.5bil contract at the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace 2005 for the four A400M.

Scoffham said the A400M was a versatile airlifter for 21st century military and civic missions.

“For example, Malaysia’s A400M could arrive in under 30 minutes to Indonesia’s tsunami-hit area to help in civic missions such as rescue work,” he said.

Asked if Malaysia was the only country in the region which had purchased the A400M, Scoffham said: “At the moment, yes.”

“There are many nations that have shown interest in the planes,” he added.
