BJP registered a huge defeat in by-poll elections across India despite having active support on social media and national media. In Kairana BJP lost to a Muslim candidate Tabassum Hasan left vacant by Hukum Singh for his daughter.
Congress made a comeback in Meghalaya alongwith Samajwadi party and Trinamool Congress.
BJP raising fake news of people migrating from Kairana and other communal issues did'nt help its cause. Rural India esp. farmers are suffering badly from Modi's economic policies like petrol prices and sugarcane dues b ut also the amount of polarization and hate Modihas brought in India has also become a concern. This was also a defeat to Hindutve extremist social media army and channels promoting fake news, where the constituents rejected BJP's communal narrative and antics. A sign of worry for the BJP in upcoming 2019 polls.
