LAHORE: The Pakistan Furniture Council (PFC), an apex body of top furniture designers of the country, is participating in the first ‘Made in Pakistan’ exhibition being held in New Delhi from April 12-15.

This event is a follow-up to ‘Made in India’ exhibition, which was held in Lahore in February this year.

PFC comprises nine board members, who are all top furniture designers. Ghazala Rahman is its chairperson. The other members are Zamana, Indesign, Ahmed Home Furnitures, ChenOne, Chiraghdin, Workmen, Mohkam and National Furniture (Gujarat).

Ghazala Rahman said the council had been established after months of brainstorming and hard work.

“Now it is a legal entity, representing private sector furniture designers of Pakistan,” she added.

Three PFC members – Zamana, Indesign and Ahmed Home Furniture – are participating in the exhibition. Those companies are considered the best of their kind of work (fine furniture).

The Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) has assigned responsibilities of event management to the J&S Entertainment and Event Management Company.

The event is being organised to promote trade ties between Pakistan and India in the wake of MFN status awarded to India by Pakistan.

TDAP is organising the exhibition with the support of Indian Commerce Ministry.

It will showcase the best of Pakistani fashion, textiles, accessories, home furnishings and other items at over 300 stalls of 100 Pakistani companies.

Over 200 truckloads of Pakistani products would reach New Delhi as part of the show.

The four-day exhibition is expected to attract more than 30,000 individuals a day from the general public, Indian trade industry and international buyers.

Pakistani companies dealing in textiles, home textiles, readymade garments, sportswear, handicrafts will also display their products at the expo.

The companies include Orient Textiles, Nishat Mills Ltd, Gul Ahmed Textiles (Pvt) Ltd, Bonanza Garments, Al-Karam Textile Mills (Pvt) Ltd, Junaid Jamshed, Khaadi, ChenOne, Eden Robe and Ensemble (Pvt) Ltd.

TDAP and chambers of commerce and industry of Pakistan are also arranging a business delegation to be part of the exhibition. The team will meet with Indian entrepreneurs to explore business potentials.
