From what I heard the engine of Force One is from Mercedez and the suspension is tuned by Lotus, UK.

From what I heard the engine of Force One is from Mercedez and the suspension is tuned by Lotus, UK.

That should read as an engine built on an old Daimler-Benz engine production line that was bought up by Force (then Kinetic Engg.) and installed in India. The engine was the OM616.
I will not buy this (khichdi) SUV from Force. QA/QC in Kinetic(Force) is the pits! Wonder how much of a presence of MAN is there in the MAN-Force trucks. That will be key to understanding how good they are.

Tata Motors to replace starter motor in 1.40 lakh Nano cars

NEW DELHI: In the biggest-ever replacement exercise in Indian automobile history, Tata Motors has asked an estimated 1.40 lakh Nano owners to bring back their cars for change of the starter motor free-of-cost.

Vehemently denying this is a recall, the company said it is changing the old starter motor with a new and 'better' one, an exercise that will reportedly to cost the firm around Rs 110 crore.

"We have devised a better starter motor and so we are upgrading it in our old Nanos for improved performance. We have not received any complaint for this and this is not a recall," a Tata Motors spokesperson said.

The company started the exercise in October and has already replaced the starter motor in about 50,000 Nano units, he added.

When asked about the total number of cars that will be covered under this replacement activity, the spokesperson said: "We will change the part in all the old Nanos that were sold before launching the Nano 2012 in November."

According to Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers data, Tata Motors has sold a total of 1,40,428 Nano units till November, 2011, since the car's launch in 2009.

On November 21 this year, Tata Motors introduced an upgraded Nano with a facelift, a more powerful engine, better fuel efficiency and new features, while keeping the price the same, in a bid to boost sales.

Asked about the cost of replacing the starter motors, the spokesperson declined to comment. However, as per reports, the company is likely to incur a total outgo of Rs 110 crore for replacing the key component, which is responsible for starting the engine.

This is not the first instance of the homegrown auto major asking its customers to take their Nanos to the service centre.

Cosma Magna to set up a Rs 300 cr greenfield plant in Pune

Cosma Magna to set up a Rs 300 cr greenfield plant in Pune - The Economic Times

Cosma Magna, a premier supplier of a range of body and chassis solutions to automobile OEM customers, is setting up a Rs 300 crore greenfield plant at Talegaon, near Pune.

The auto component manufacturer is part of the Canadian major Magna International and already has a presence in the Pune region, where some of its customers are located.

The greenfield facility will come up within a year, industry department officials confirmed to The ET. The 29 acre plot of land where this plant will come up has been sold to the Canadian company by ZF Steering Gear India for Rs. 47 crore. ZF Steering, a Rs. 298 crore joint venture with ZF Lensksysteme for the manufacture of mechanical and hydraulic powered steering gears for the automotive sector, had acquired the land in the Talegaon industrial area for its proposed expansion.

Dinesh Munot, chairman and managing director, ZF Steering, explained that the sale has been effected since these are uncertain times. "We don't need to invest now in these times of uncertainty. Industry is going through a dull phase and future growth is uncertain," he said, explaining why they have sold off the land. This plot would have housed expansion of the steering gear capacity for the JV which would have added to its existing plant at Vadu, about 25 kms from Pune on the road to Ahmednagar.

Talegaon and its neighbouring industrial areas of Pune, Chakan and Ranjangaon is auto-focused hub, home to domestic and international auto manufacturers and an auto component eco system. Among the companies in this region are Tata Motors, Bajaj Auto, Force Motors, Fiat, Volkswagen, General Motors and Foton along with off road equipment manufacturers JCB, John Deere, Hyundai and Sany. The two big Chinese OEMs are located here, namely Foton and Sany.

Volvo to make India global hub of its Asia range

expects revenues for India subsidiary to shoot up to $1 bn from the present $200 mn.

India is set to emerge as the global development and manufacturing hub for Swedish bus maker Volvo Bus Corporation’s Asia range over the next four years.

The company, which has production facilities in 20 countries, has global manufacturing bases in Poland, Mexico and China. While the facility in Poland supplies premium buses to Europe, the centres in Mexico and China roll out premium products for countries in the Americas and southeast Asia respectively.

“India will be the fourth global hub for Volvo. The Asia range of buses will be designed, developed, manufactured and exported exclusively from India to the rest of the world. The new 9100 model is the first in this range of products,” said Akash Passey, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Volvo Buses (South Asia). The Volvo 9100 coach is a medium haulage bus designed to operate over 300-400 km. The Indian unit expects at least 40-50 per cent of overall sales to come in from the Asia product range over the next two years.

Highlighting the growing importance of India in Volvo’s global operations, Hakan Karlsson, president, Volvo Bus Corporation, said, “We have a clearly defined role for India in the future. With a planned investment of at least Rs 400 crore, India would emerge as the second largest market for us globally over the next four years. It would be the manufacturing hub for selected models and have a research and product team focused on developing specific products for Asian markets, which would then find their way to the rest of the world.”

The company, looking to sell 25,000-30,000 units worldwide by 2015, expects nearly half the volumes to come from the emerging markets of India and China. The Indian unit is projected to increase sales fivefold to 5,000 units per annum to become the second largest market for Volvo Buses worldwide over four years. India is now the sixth largest market for the company, behind China, South America and Europe.

Revenues for the India subsidiary, too, are expected to shoot up to $1 billion from the present $200 million. As much as 25 per cent of overall volumes would be registered as exports from India to countries in Asia-Pacific, West Asia and South America.

To build scale, the company is expanding its product range to offer 10 variants across both inter-city and city segments in 2012. Volvo Buses India has the capacity to manufacture 1,200-1,500 units per annum at its facility in Hoskote, Bangalore. The company is considering options to expand capacity at the existing facility and to set up a second manufacturing unit in the country.

While a final call on the site for the second unit has not been taken yet, Karlsson says investments over the Rs 400 crore (already planned) will be made for the new plant. Volvo Buses India has a market share of 70 per cent in the luxury inter-city coach segment and over 50 per cent share in the low-floor air-conditioned city bus segment.

I am a big fan of Royal Enfield from my young age, we have a Bullet bought 16 years back by my brother and it's running excellent condition even today, and this is the only bike from India exported to Europe and USA!!!

Also unlike other bikes in India there is a waiting period of Two to Three months to get a Royal Enfield!!!
