Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday exuded confidence that the ambitious Lucknow Metro Rail project, to ease traffic and transportation problem of the state capital, would start in time.

On the occasion of the release of 'Development Agenda of UP 2013-2014', the chief minister said, "After the Lucknow project, which is a priority of the state government, projects for other cities would be taken up."

Yadav, who was presented the model of the proposed project, also said the funds for the extension of metro in Ghaziabad has been arranged.

Principal Secretary of the Housing and Urban Planning department Sadakant said details of the project were being worked out diligently so that the first phase of the Rs 6,757 crore project could be started by the targeted date of December, 2013.

All efforts are being made to obtain necessary approvals and financial sanction from the Centre, he said, adding that operations are expected to commence in December, 2016.

A modified Detailed Project Report (DPR) had been approved by the high-powered committee headed by the Chief Secretary, Sadakant said.

The constitution of the Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC) is underway with the memorandum and articles of the association having been prepared, he said.

To expedite the work, an interim consultant is required to prepare detailed designs for which two specialist agencies -- RITES and DMRC -- have been asked to submit proposals, the Principal Secretary said, adding that the interim consultant would be selected by the end of this month.

DMRC is working on the depot design for north-south corridor of the first phase, he said.

The underground portion of the north-south corridor had been reduced from 7.5 km to approximately 3.5 km from Charbagh to Hazratganj, Sadakant said, adding that 22 stations are proposed in the first phase, out of which 3 stations are underground and 19 elevated.

An estimated 6.45 lakh passengers will use this corridor in the year 2020. The peak hour peak direction traffic (PHPDT) of this corridor is estimated to be 20,976 in 2020.

One rake would consist of six coaches with a passenger carrying capacity of 1,574. Initially, the train will run at an interval of 7 to 14 minutes but with the increase in traffic, the interval will be reduced to 2 to 4 minutes.

#Good news for the lucknowites #Congrats to all!!!!

Well this metro fever is growing by the day. Now even a city in Uttar Pradesh will have a metro, but none in Gujarat have one.

Buddy the construction work is still to commence by December and it will be completed by the end of this decade and as far as Gujrat is concerned, The first phase of the Rs 19,000-crore metro rail project between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, spanning over 83 km, is scheduled for completion in 2017. Gujrat has a hell lot more skilled labour force and resources at its disposal and above an extremely good leadership of NaMo but not the same case with UP, Gujrat will complete its project before UP...

BTW India is set to benefit from the famed Japanese bullet train technology, with Tokyo today pledging to invest heavily in building high speed railway systems in the country and the first route is planned to be Mumbai-Ahmedabad route, so the Gujaratis have many more reasons to celebrate than just a Metro Rail Network!!!!

Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar metro project 1st phase to be over by 2017

The first phase of the Rs 19,000-crore metro rail project between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, spanning over 83 km, is scheduled for completion in 2017.

“Request for Proposals (RFPs) of all major systems and procurement have already been floated and tenders related to civil construction are under finalisation process,” an official at Metrolink Express for Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad (MEGA), a company formed to execute the project, said preferring anonymity.

“The first phase of the project will be completed in 2017 and the rest in 2021,” he said.

MEGA is a state-formed special purpose vehicle (SPV) for the project execution, with an authorised capital of Rs 200 crore and initial paid-up capital of Rs 10 crore.

The project covers around 83 km connecting important points of Ahmedabad like Kalupur railway station, civil hospital, airport and GIFT city, state secretariat and Akshardam.

“This project will include around 64 km of elevated corridor and 19 km of underground. The elevated corridor construction work will be taken up first on priority,” sources said.

However, the State proposed 50:50 joint venture project with the Centre, currently awaits a detailed project report (DPR) approval from the State government.

“The DPRs are under consideration of the State Government...and a decision is yet to be taken,” Principal Secretary for Urban Development G.R. Aloria said.

“After the approval of the State Government, the DPRs would be sent to the Centre,” he said, adding that a joint venture proposal can only then be formalised.
