He possesses rich operational and command experience having commanded an Armoured Engineer Regiment in plains, and a Mountain Brigade in North East. He commanded Rastriya Rifles Force, as GoC, in the insurgency hit region of Jammu and Kashmir and also held various prestigious staff appointments like Directing Staff at Defence Service Staff College, Colonel General Staff Operations of a Corps in high altitude, Chief Engineer of a Corps in Desert sector, Brigadier General Staff at Army Training Command and Deputy Director General at Military Operations Directorate at Army Headquarters. He commanded the largest Corps of the Indian Army in the North East, responsible for security along a large part of the northern borders with China,
Myanmar to the East and Counter Terrorist Operations in four of the NE
States.

He was the Brigade Major of an Infantry Brigade in Sri Lanka during Op Pawan and Colonel General Staff of a Counter Insurgency Force in Jammu & Kashmir. As Additional Director General Military Operations in the Army Headquarters, he was responsible for Force Structuring and Op Preparedness of the Army.

He has the distinction of doing the Gunnery Staff Course at Royal School of Artillery, Larkhill (UK) and later served for three years as the Assistant Military Attaché at Embassy of India, Moscow. He has been an Instructor at Indian Military Academy, School of Artillery and Defence Services Staff College.

For his distinguished service, he has been awarded the Vishisht Seva Medal, Sena Medal and Chief of Army Staff Commendation Cards on two occasions.

Lieutenant General Rajan Bakhshi has had extensive operational experience in varied appointments in all kinds of terrain configurations. He has served in all the Strike Corps’ of the Indian Army. The General Officer commanded an Armoured Regiment and an Armoured Brigade as part of an elite Armoured Division on the Western Front. He went on to command an Infantry Division in the Western Theatre and a Corps in High Altitude Area which includes the highest battlefield in the world.

While on staff, the General Officer has had the experience of serving as a Logistics Staff Officer of a Mountain Brigade deployed in High Altitude Area, Brigade Major of an Armoured Brigade and Colonel General Staff of an elite Armoured Division during OP PARAKARAM. He has also held Senior Staff Appointments at the Integrated Headquarters, Ministry of Defence (Army), besides serving on instructional assignments at the National Defence Academy Khadakwasla and the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington.
