Lockheed’s song and dance for India: Did Delhi buy it?

. .
India will NEVER buy Planes being used as Junk Targets.
F16 are outdated, why buy old when we can buy New and more Superior Fighters.
F18 or Rafale. no F16s.

F-16s currently used by IAF and UAEAF are as good as Su-30 MKIs. The F-16 stage started along with Mirage-2000 Mig-29 and few years later Su-27 arrived. These planes have evolved over the years and are by no means "JUNK" because the 1980 block 15 is being used for a target drone. Their is a huge difference between block 15 and 52+ dont make a fool out of yourself generalizing the air craft capability by its name only.

The Air Force has begun replacing its dwindling supply of QF-4 target drones with QF-16s, according to a Boeing announcement made Tuesday.

With the supply of venerable F-4 airframes running low after years of use as target drones, the air service has given Boeing a $69 million contract to convert up to 126 of the service’s oldest F-16s in storage at Davis Monthan Air Force Base, Ariz., into aerial targets, according to the announcement.

Design work on the drones will be done at Boeing’s St. Louis facility while production will be done in Jacksonville, Fla.

so why india should buy a target drone . we hav a lot of target drones in our inventey

The point is....Dont aim for a Masters degree in a subject when your enemy has a PHD in it....

Simply.....the fact that PAF has operated these machines for over 2-3 decades should be enough reason to eliminate it from competition.....
PAF probably has mastered the tactics of this plane and we as the opponent need to give them something they arent expecting.....Always keep your enemy on their toes....

You mean like MK2 Mig-29 Su-30? But the thing is your drones are not targeted from ground or air in fact their target is the ground which results in alot of crashes.

We will know about it when AH tries a GHAZWE HIND!

As for now we have only heard about the F-16s being turned into target drones not the ones you mentioned!

YAP when you have links! to support YOUR SHEET JUNK statements! else STFU!

With all due respect to fellow Indian members, the F-16 is still one of the most successful and versatile fighters the world has seen. Agreed, the programme itself is dated but with periodic upgrades, the Americans have managed to give the best in electronics, avionics and weapon systems available to this aircraft thereby ensuring that it retains its cutting edge. Till date, it remains one of the most successful and battle tested modern fighters. With the upgrades, the F-16 will remain a very viable platform for atleast the next decade.

By no stretch of imagination can this aircraft be therefore called junk.

Moreover, it is very much in contention for the MRCA deal, having been evaluated by the IAF. Technically therefore, it is possible that the F-16 in its latest avtar be selected by the GOI to display the Indian tricolour. This remains a distinct possibility till the selection process is completed and the winner of the MRCA competition is anounced.

We all have our personal opinions about the likely winner but at the end of the day it is the GOI which will take the final call.

I agree, the Americans have a poor track record in honoring defence contracts and agreements and also the fact that the PAF flies these aircrafts, makes it somewhat unlikely for us to go for the F-16, but no one can forecast the outcome of the MRCA bidding for sure.

To answer the question raised by the thread starter, the statement given out by Lockheed is totally untenable. No one in his right mind believes this statement which is nothing but a crude sales pitch. The US government is committed to providing after sales technical and maintenance support to the F-16s supplied to Pakistan and this includes periodic upgrades and Lockheed has little to do with it.

.
Growler correct on His argument.

In that F16 A/B maybe old outdated Vipers BUT THE new upgraded F16 LIKE iSRAELI SUFI or the F16/60 from UAE are aesome machines.

Even the F16/52 is a very modern fighter.

Much in way a SU30MKI is far superior to the basic SU27..

to keep tabs on american toys and to keep some of the indian neighbours cool and calm :)

i suggest indians can purchase some 100 odd toys from US...this will give US companies a good smile and Indian will too have a good experience of US tech... indians can afford this very easily...but for MRCA indians shud strictly go for Typhoon or MIG35.....cause it is for the Long Cause.....

Being French, you should have a bias towards Rafale, no?
