Lockheed Martin producing ATACMS for UAE - UPI.com
DALLAS, May 13 (UPI) -- Lockheed Martin has received a Foreign Military Sales contract to produce Army Tactical Missile Systems for the U.S. Army and the United Arab Emirates.
The award for the Army long-range, precision-strike surface-to-surface weapon system carries a value of $174 million.
"ATACMS has unsurpassed surface-to-surface capability," said Ken Musculus, vice president of Tactical Missiles for Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control. "It is extremely reliable and proven in combat, which is why it continues to be our customers' choice for long-range strike requirements."
An ATACMS missile is packaged in a guided missile launch assembly pod and fired from the MLRS family of launchers. The missile system is fielded with a number of allied nations, including the Republic of Korea, Greece, Bahrain, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates.
Lockheed Martin said the missiles will be manufactured at its facility in Camden, Ark. No information was given as to the exact number of missiles to be produced but in September of last year the U.S. State Department had approved the sale of 100 ATACMS to the UAE.

Lockheed to supply additional ATACMS missiles to US and UAE armies - Army Technology
Lockheed Martin has secured a contract to manufacture and supply additional army tactical missile system (ATACMS) to the US and United Arab Emirates Armed Forces.
The foreign military sales contract is valued at $174m, and covers delivery of undisclosed number of ATACMS, which is claimed to be the US Army's only tactical long-range precision-strike surface-to-surface weapon system.
Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control Tactical Missiles vice-president Ken Musculus said: "ATACMS has unsurpassed surface-to-surface capability.
"It is extremely reliable and proven in combat, which is why it continues to be our customers' choice for long-range strike requirements."
Designed by Ling-Temco-Vought and manufactured by Lockheed, ATACMS is a tactical long-range precision-strike, surface-to-surface missile, designed to provide operational commanders with immediate firepower for precision engagement of enemy targets during combat operations.
"ATACMS has unsurpassed surface-to-surface capability."
The missile delays, disrupts, neutralises or destroys high payoff targets such as combat manoeuvre units, surface to surface missile units, air defence units, command, control and communications sites, as well as helicopter forward area rearming / refuelling points.
Packaged in a guided-missile launch assembly pod, the missile carries a WDU18, 500lb class blast fragmentation warhead, and is fired from the multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS), including the M270 MLRS and the high-mobility artillery rocket system.
To date, Lockheed has manufactured more than 3,700 ATACMS missiles, with 560 of them fired in combat, demonstrating high rates of accuracy and reliability.
The missile is also in service with the armies of Bahrain, Greece, China, South Korea, Turkey, and the UAE.
Production work under the contract is scheduled to be carried out at the company's facility in Camden, Arkansas, US, while the delivery schedule remains undisclosed.
