today published it happend at the 1. Nov this year. The German frigate Mecklenburg Vorpommern was operating under EUNAVFORMED Operation SOPHIA to rescuing boat people fleeing over the mediterranean sea and locating smuggler routs. The frigate had stoped to rescue refugees from a boat, german soldier were inspecting the already empty boat for hinds of the smuggler... about 50km away from the Libyan coast line. Suddenly a Libyan coastal guard boat appered approching with high speed directly onto the frigate and fired its guns as they turned away in the last moment.
The chief of the Libyan coastal guard Abdalh Toumia is very disapointed by the unprofessional behaivour of his coastal guard patrol boat crews, he assured that it will happen never again, he said the captain of his petrol boat claimed they just have tested their weapons and never aimed at the German frigate...
Pretty dangerous game this captain played.....
Just imagine in the ship this Libyan captain "attacked for fun" would be a similar hot shoot captain and fire back... sometimes I wonder how people can get into such positions with such a stupid behaivor...
