LG to make all premium products and mobile phones in India: MD Ki Wan Kim
: LG Electronics, India's largest white goods maker, will manufacture all its premium products and entire mobile phone range in India and may set up a third plant in the country to primarily cater to the Northeast region. LG India managing director Ki Wan Kim said the company's strategy will be to launch new premium products, create the market, take leadership and eventually manufacture them in India. "We will also manufacture all our smartphones in India, either at our own plant or through thirdparty makers," he said. "Eventually, we plan to have a third plant somewhere in the eastern coastal belt to be near the Northeast market where transportation of products is a huge challenge," Kim said. He said LG's existing plants in Noida and Pune are sufficient to meet current demand. The company recently started manufacturing handsets in India in partnership with Optiemus Group
Kim said premium appliances, new categories like air and water purifiers and smartphones will help the Korean brand return to high growth momentum. The company grew around 10 per cent year on year in the January to June period of this year and it expects similar growth for the rest of the calendar. "We will aim for higher growth next year," he said.
