Ayatollah Khamenei gestures during a speech to a group of volunteer Basij forces in Tehran, Nov. 23, 2016.

Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has said that Iran would respond if the US proceeded to renew the Iran Sanctions Act (ISA) which expires at the end of 2016.

The US House of Representatives voted for a 10-year extension of the ISA earlier this month but to become law, the bill has to be endorsed by the Senate as well and signed by the US president.

“So far, the current US government has committed several violations with regard to the nuclear agreement,” Ayatollah Khamenei told members of the volunteer Basij forces in Tehran on Wednesday.

“The most recent of them is the 10-year extension of the sanctions. If these sanctions are extended, it will surely constitute a violation of the JCPOA and they (the US) should know that the Islamic Republic will definitely react to it,” he added.

Iranian officials have already warned that a possible extension of the ISA would breach the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) -- a nuclear accord with Iran under which the US, the EU and other countries undertook in 2015 not to impose new sanctions on Tehran.

Last week, the US House also passed a bill that would block the sale of commercial aircraft by Boeing and Airbus to Iran, with the Obama administration admitting that the legislation would be a violation of the nuclear pact.

Last week, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani addressed US officials in a strident tone, warning them about a possible breach of the deal.

“If you extend the sanctions, this will mean kicking the JCPOA away and we will confront it through implementing powerful technical packages,” he said without elaboration.

US President-elect Donald Trump has said it would be hard to destroy a deal enshrined in a United Nations resolution. In August 2015, he said he would not "rip up” the nuclear deal, but that he would "police that contract so tough they don’t have a chance.”

Ayatollah Khamenei said then, “We will not violate the JCPOA, but if the opposite side violates it - as US presidential candidates are currently threatening to tear up the JCPOA - if they tear up the JCPOA, we will burn it.”

There is absolutely no doubt that TRUMP will cancel these deals. And there is very little Iran can do.

Iran has proved in recent 36 years that can very much to do...

For example Iran will enrich uranium up to 60 - 90% to fuel nuclear submarines or test 12,000 km range missiles or close strait of Hormuz and Persian Gulf to american ships etc...

Now idiots in Iran should wake up.... I mean Rohani gang.... @mohsen

And there is very little Iran can do.

You mean apart from speeding up their nuclear program?

The whole point of the deal was to lift sanctions in exchange for Iran reducing their nuclear program. If the sanctions come back, then the Iranian nuclear program will have to return to full speed as well.

Unlike India and Pakistan, Iran has signed NPT. If you violate a signed agreement Trump will make sure that you lose all credibility. Your leaders were not very smart.

The Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, commonly known as the Non-Proliferation Treaty or NPT, is an international treaty whose objective is to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons and weapons technology, to promote cooperation in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy, and to further the goal of ...

Sadly Iran signed NPT before Islamic Republic in 1970. The same Shah regime that gifted UAE and Bahrain to British in 1975...

Btw Iran is only after peaceful nuclear program NOT military version but western countries specially America ignore Iran's rights to have PEACEFULL nuclear program while they have armed israel as an illegitimate country to nuclear weapons.

Don't be fool.

Since 1979 Iran has never ever been satellite of a any country, unlike Pakistan, Turkey, Suadi and almost all of weak countries in the world.

Iran has never ever rolled back its decision, etc...

That's why yankees and Zionists start crying when they hear name of 'IRAN' .

You can dogfight Indians as much as you want but at the end of day : you are just a satellite of Americans and Suadis...

you see the beauty of NPT or Even Additional protocol is that they won't ban us from enriching uranium ,they ban us from making a detonation device . so well we can make another research reactor like Tehran Reactor but instead of making it according to it's current design we make it according to it's original design and then we have a valid reason to enrich Uranium up to 96% (Yes before the revolution that reactor worked with 96% uranium that came directly from USA) we also fully activate the fuel cycle and produce as much Plutonium as we like after all we are making them to use mixture of Uranium and Plutonium in our reactors which may other countries do to gain higher output.

and you knew that NPT has nothing to do with missiles

I don't know why you are so much focused on Israel, It is costing your people a lot. If Asad regime in Syria falls, your shia brethren will be butchered by arabs. Ask asad to plan for a seperate Shia country in Syria, if you don't act smart you will lose your people. Let arabs deal with Israel.

you guys if go and study about Iran nuclear timeline , you see that we can do many thing and we will do so as we did it previously
at that time we completely stopped our nuclear program (and I mean completely not just like now that we merely restrained it) and when we saw that the world failed to understand the language of reason we not only reactivated our program but also did it in a magnitude of 10 time .

I mean I seriously have no idea what it is exactly you are talking about. I haven't even said anything and your already on the offensive.

Sis, Asad is not important the importance is Iran's decision.

If we have decided to protect Shias then we will do it to the end.

Is it really the fear of sanctions that Iran is not pursuing nuclear weapons? or is it the sudden respect of NPT?
What do we than call, approaching deceased Pakistani PM bhutton for tech. transfer in unofficial manner and of course complete defiance of NPT!

Shah regime that gifted UAE and Bahrain to British in 1975...
really? I have UAE postal stamps dating back from 1973, with no queen or crown!

If we have decided to protect Shias then it means we will do it to the end.
How are you protecting Pakistani shia?
Actually, i read (news) it is Pakistani Shias who are protecting Iran !
