Land Rover is all set to open a new facility in Sri Lanka to locally manufacture its vehicles. The Work on the project is in process and about to start in sometime. The reason behind this step is so to make vehicles more accessible and affordable to a wider market. Additionally, the company also plans to manufacture a SUV to be sold all around the globe.

Land Rover will be locally produced by a Sri Lanka based facility named as SML Frontier Automotive Pvt. Ltd, owned by Sathosa Motors and Sheran Fernando. Production is slated to commence this year and a new production unit is being developed for the production.

Dude; you got it wrong. The Land Rovers will be ASSEMBLED in Sri Lanka from SKD kits The Kits will be MANUFACTURED in TATA's Jaguar/Land Rover Plant in India.
This is being done to reduce the import duty and reduce the price in Sri Lanka.

Incidentally, the Defender is planned to be assembled in Pakistan also; by the local Importer/Distributor there.

The source for SKD Kits for all of South Asia and Mid East will be the same. TATA's new Jaguar/Land Rover Factory on the outskirts of Pune, India. Which is a new source of employment for Indian Engineers and Technicians and a bigger source of dividends for Indian Investors like me.

Its very good, if you can afford to own it. Its no Mehran or Potohar.
Even the Pakistani Army does own Defenders; with good reasons.

Ive a prado and a vigo for tht.. potohar is a tough jeep but has a crappy ride..
