Dear members

I am doing some research on ownership of properties in Pakistan including Azad Kashmir.

Is it possible to establish who officially owns a property in Pakistan, just by only having their address and name? For example, if person has a property in Multan, from that address can you find out, whether they have additional properties under that name.

I am hoping land records is linked to Nadra database?
I am aware of Land Records Authority in Punjab and AK. But is there an unofficial way? For example, you somehow have access to Nadra database, could you find out all properties a person has?

The reason, I ask is due to fact my dad sent money to Pakistan, over many years and he suspects his brother has used that money to buy additional properties without permission. Family disputes over land is a common problem, hence I thought some PDF members have first hand knowledge on this subject.

Any information or advice is welcome.

Nadra doesn't maintain any record of land owned by citizens. At best it can tell you the family tree and that too depends upon the information provided by the citizen himself. If it was left to Nadra they would sell a Pakistani CNIC to a donkey knocking at their door with some money.

FBR should have this ability, but sadly they don't. And they don't seem interested as well. Priorities.

Get your chacha kidnapped ......... or just simply forget about it. There is no way you can prove first, and even if you succeed in doing that, there is no way you can lay claim on that land. It takes decades to decide family disputes over inherited land and you are talking about may be additional properties.

I partially knew there was nothing we could do, but if you don't ask the questions, you never know for sure.

Tell your dad to forgive his money to his brother and move on

You can try it's not like you can't do anything, but that would be you doing it yourself without any government help, but it would take your time and coming to Pakistan. You can beat the crook in his trade but that would mean compromising on your principles. You would have to lie.

What you can do is ..... if you have any idea where those additional properties may be located, start contacting the realtors and property advisers in that area (mind you don't get fooled by Islamic tunes and looks of these property guys), start floating that you have some huge spare money which you want to invest in property (get their attention), now once they start getting interested in trapping you, simply keep demanding for property that is similar to what you believe to be your chacha's additional properties, offer high prices for the property, and while you are at it, ask your dad to start pressurizing your chacha about where the money was invested. Keep playing it, and always remember if you get an interested seller, prefer to meet him, don't promise any payments in cash, stress paying in shape of manager's cheque or banker cheque or Pay order from start, no physical cash. Don't share you real identity until you get to meet someone, the seller you know is your chacha or someone related your chacha or his acquaintance. Once you identify that ........... take your chacha to task, call in grand meeting of respectable family elders, and name and shame your chacha for what he did ........... And next time, don't just invest in property here while sitting there ......... come visit, see it for yourself, study the market, chose and then invest with everything written in black and white.

Obviously this all depends on if you have any idea where those properties may be located. It may seem lollywood type, but this is all I can think of in your current situation.

Or the other way could be letting somehow FBR people know that your chacha hasn't been declaring his assets in Pakistan and hasn't been filing his returns ......... but that would involve first getting some expert advice on how Pakistani tax laws work ....... your chacha may get tangled in a legal issue and he may be able to get out of it, but that may not get you your properties back, the only good that can come out of it is your chacha declaring those properties, that too only if he is maintaining those properties his own name.
