L&T consortium bags Riyadh Metro project

:coffee: who cares, as long as the UAE is going to get them, along with their newest order of the F-16 Block 60, everything is on the right track.

Only thing I didn't like in UAE AF is that they use foreign Pilots in their one fourth of their fleet. You can use foreign instructor but how can be you become competent if your super advance plane fly by foreign pilot.

But RSAF is currently doing very good & they train their pilots ruggedly to make on par of top tier air force pilots.

indian and chinese metro stuff didnt sell?
Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T) is a technology, engineering, construction and manufacturing company. It is one of the largest and most respected companies in India's private sector. L&T was founded in Mumbai in 1938.

well congrats i was wondering how an indian started this thread when the indian company wasnt even rewarded

Yaar they will probably take part in contruction along with other companies... while metros will be provided by some european company.

No, the UAE Police Department is the only place where foriegn nationals can get a job - in terms of the UAE secuirty & defense establishments as a whole - whereas those who serve in their armed forces happen to be UAE nationals, and they still can hold their own native nationalities at the same time. Practically, if you happen to be qualified enough to match the UAE immigration standards you can become a citizen - just like Qatar -

The only foreign nationals in the UAE armed forces are mercenaries, serving as instructors at the UAE armed forces.

If you want to become a pilot in the RSAF you have to kill yourself 20 times - it is freaking difficult to get there - so yeah only qualified people can fit in - like any other decent Air Force on the planet.

I'm glad that the L&T is in, such company is well-known for its remarkable achievements, and KSA is going to invest in it, in India as well as Riyadh branch, so it is a win-win situation, both will benefit from it.

Personnel and training[edit]

The UAEAF consists of about 4,000 personnel.[1]
In the 1970s and 80s, the UAEAF was instructed by Pakistan Air Force pilots on Dassault Mirage IIIs, the backbone of the UAEAF at the time. Even today, many of the personnel are ex-Pakistan Air Force officers and technicians. Most of the flying instructors at Al Ain are from Pakistan, training pilots using Grob G 115, Pilatus PC-7, Aermacchi MB-339, and BAE Hawk 63 aircraft. A few officers of No. 12 Squadron (Hawk 102) at Minhad Air Base, are also from the Pakistan Air Force. Some of these officers are on deputation (active service), but most are on civilian contracts with the Air Force Headquarters in Abu Dhabi.

L&T is mainly a construction company, they will take care of things like viaducts and tunnels, stations, yards, elecrification and track. They also have enough experience in surveilen e,automation etc.

The Rolling stock, would only be selecyed on the Last phase of the project through competetive bidding(probabily),and Indian and Chinese coach manufacturers may bid, also companies like Bombardier amd Alstom has metro coach manufacturing facilities in India which may be used,if they get the contract.

As of now,we didnt have driverless train technology, although it is possible for BEML to develop one.
Mean while L&T is,according to latest reports, planning to introduce driverless trains (like that of Dubai) in Hyderabad :yahoo:

Currently L&T is top tier company in ship building, heavy equipment, defence solutions etc. Construction is their big bread winner does not make them only construction company. They build INS Arihant's hull , Pinaka's launcher etc.

True that. But that is irrelevant here because the thread doesnot involve such applications and L&T is involved in this project for construction & design only, not providing trains as of now.

I don't say they provide trains but laying of tracks , digging underground tunnel, making over & under bridges & designing is same class herculean task not eveybody can do it. We have L&T, HCC, Gamon India like firms which can undertake any such task easily. These are also complex technical tasks.

If they were working as civilians then I guess they might fall under the category of contractors, but any military personnel has got to be a UAE nationals, this article is a bit old, and I'm not ready to judge it since I have been in touch with them.

Yes most are in technical & civilian contracts but also are in deputated in active service.
