The Kuwaiti cabinet decided on Monday to revoke the citizenship of a prominent Islamic cleric along with nine other Kuwaitis, citing "security reasons".
Al-Resalah newspaper reported that this decision was apparently taken over their public statement in solidarity with Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

In its weekly meeting led by Prime Minister Sabbah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabbah, the cabinet decided to revoke the citizenship of Dr Nabil Al-Awadi based on article 13 of the Kuwaiti citizenship law.

In his first public response to the decision, Awadi, who is reportedly close to the Muslim Brotherhood, said via Twitter: "I will remain faithful to my country Kuwait... and loyal to his Highness my Prince... and loving and advising to the people of Kuwait, my family... and I pray for Allah to protect Kuwait and its people from all evil."

Gulf authorities routinely harass Islamic clerics due to their political stances, especially their stance on Palestine, which is a popular cause.

On 22 July, the Kuwaiti cabinet revoked the citizenship of Ahmed Jaber Kadhim Al-Shammari, owner of Al-Youm satellite channel and Al-Alam Al-Yaoum newspaper for reasons of "public interest" and that of former opposition MP Abdullah Al-Barghash, claiming he acquired his citizenship "through fraud".

Human Rights Watch denounced these actions as a "crackdown on people seeking reform". The organisation's MENA head Joe Stork added that, "No government has the right to strip away its people's citizenship simply because it disapproves of them, their opinions, or their actions."

The government in Kuwait is reportedly investigating an alleged plot to overthrow the ruling system, further fuelling the crackdown.

A new low for gulf monarchs. Btw lets not bash our arab brothers for their corrupt rulers. Such dacoit regimes doesn't necessarily represent their people at large.

. . . . . .
Nabeel al-Awadhi is a crazy salafi and Qatari dual citizen. He's also a big Syria terrorism funder. He lost the Kuwaiti nationality because he made many sectarian remarks and he tried instigating a revolution against the monarchy. In 2012, Nabeel told his followers to overthrow the government.

.
The Arabs in the Persian Gulf have largely betrayed their fellow brothers in Gaza. Out of all Arabs i can only respect Palestinians who are the only people on earth who are actively fighting the cancer on earth (Israel).

Don't forget Algerians, Tunisians, Libyans, Sudanese who stand very strong by us and would do anything they could including arming. The Egyptians, Jordanians, have many people who support Palestine but can't do anything about it.

SO the problem lies with his views abt the monarchy? :D Its pretty apparent here that the whole thing has nothing to do with terrorism. And yeah his citizenship have been revoked after he gave statements in support of gaza. GCC states have been criminally in bed with zionist this time in fear of loosing their power. rather than being pragmatic to the changing regional dynamics they decided to crush their political opponents and aiding in the slaughter of people in Egypt and gaza.

Btw i m not a iran supporter. I hate what the iranians did by backing thugs such as assad and maliki but the GCC didn't do any better.Even if we talk abt materialistic nationalistic POV, are the GCC countries loooking after their respective interest or the interest of the respective monarchies? The monarchs r looking after their own interest.

One thing i have noticed that PDF members from most countries try to justify all sorts of atrocities of their respective gov/monarchies no matter how idiotic it sounds. This is what nationalism does. Makes people tribal in their respect worldview while they lose their moral conscience. really pathetic.

You sound like a confused Bengali, you know Kuwait is the only Arab country that stood with Bangaldesh during the Bangladesh Liberation War. Stop spreading misinformation, Nabeel al-Awadhi lost the Kuwaiti nationality because he supports terrorism

The Kuwaiti government always stands with the oppressed. Nabeel al-Awadhi supports terrorism in Syria and Iraq.

Nabeel isn't a native Kuwaiti, he's a foreign immigrant who was given the Kuwaiti nationality in 1999
