KP government to establish facilitation centres for diaspora

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is planning to establish a facilitation centre in the provincial capital and certain other cities to assist the overseas Pakistanis belonging to the province.

Official sources told The News that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-led provincial government wanted to recognize the contribution of the migrant workers belonging to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to the economy as they were sending precious foreign exchange from the Gulf countries, Far East and other parts of the world. “We would like to give respect to our diaspora. These hardworking workers deserve our appreciation,” a senior provincial government officer said.

The sources said the overseas Pakistanis would be issued cards by the provincial government and registered. They said the facilitation centres would be staffed by government officials from different departments, including the police, to extend help to the registered overseas Pakistanis in case of need. The sources said they would be offered guidance and services and their interest would be protected.

The sources said the first facilitation centre for the diaspora would be established in Peshawar. They said another centre would be set up in Hangu as a large number of overseas Pakistanis belong to the district. They added that facilitation centres would also be established in places like Buner and Swat from where a significant number of people have gone to the Gulf states, Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei to earn their livelihood.
