As reported by Beta agency, the armed conflict lasted about half an hour and it is still not known whether there were any victims, reported Serbian daily Kurir.

The reporter saw several ambulances and a number of members of Gendarmerie near Borovac. According to locals and unofficial information from the police source, armed group of Albanians crossed the administrative line and tried to illegally cut the woods near Borovac. On that occasion they attacked members of Gendarmerie who were in the vicinity.

The president of the Council of the local community Merdare, Caslav Milosevic, said for Beta that the armed conflict lasted about half an hour.

“There was shooting like it was war. From several types of weapons. Besides the solitaire gunfire bursts could be heard. Residents of this village are very scared and upset,” Milosevic said. Resident Ratomirka Pavlovic (65) said that the incident happened near her family house.

“The bullets were whizzing all around. We heard them stab at the trees and tearing the leaves of the trees,” Radomirka said. About 20 residents live in Borovac, 5 of them are children. They say that they are all very upset and frightened, because this is not the first time that armed conflicts happened near their houses.

Gendarmerie did not want to comment on the newest shooting incident, and they did not allow reporters to enter the village for the security reasons. As Kurir unofficially learned, action of arresting the Albanians, who illegally cut the wood and attacked members of Gendarmerie, is in progress.

According to the latest informations, 6 Albanians from Kosovo are wounded. Four of them succeeded to run over the border, and two of them are captured by gendarmerie. There are no wounded on the Serbian side.

Keep fighting, Serbian brothers! Soon Russia will rise and help you!

Sad incidence really. Is fencing that area a practical option to consider keeping in view the geography?

Learned couple of this while going through the map.

So, you guys have three villages named as "Borovac"?

One is near the zone from where this news came from i-e Kursumlija & another near Zajecar and another one at Bujanovac.

What does the word Borovac mean?....."A village" since there are quite a few in Bosnia and one in Croatia.

The gray one is the troubled zone as far as i could locate.

@S.U.R.B.

"Bor" means pine tree in Serbian. So probably long time ago (or even now) there were lot of pine trees in that area, and that's how the village got a name.

They are regularly stealing timber in that area, and this time they thought that it would be a good idea to make an ambush for gendarmerie, kill a few members of the Serbian gendarmerie and then brag about it, when they go home. But instead of that they got a few bullets as a memento.

Gendarmes attacked by Albanian timber thieves
The village is located near the town of Kuršumlija, and near the administrative line between Kosovo and central Serbia.

"A group of Albanians attacked, with automatic weapons, a Gendarmerie patrol, on the territory of Serbia, in the region of the Kuršumlija village of Borovac. There were no consequences for the members of the Gendarmerie, while information of the Kosovo Police Service shows that six persons of Albanian nationality were injured," said Gendarmerie commander Bratislav Dikić.

In a statement for Tanjug, Dinkić specified that the police officers came under fire from two directions at around 19:00 CET on Sunday, and that "multiple persons" carried out the attack. According to this, the Gendarmes "responded adequately" and were not harmed.

Dinkić further said that a tractor loaded with timber was found at the scene, along with two chainsaws and items of personal clothing, and that EULEX and KFOR liaison officers were informed about the incident.

Last night, the commander also said that the Gendarmes were "undertaking measures and activities to ensure safety of the citizens in the area," and that they had been looking for the attackers who were wounded. If found, he said, they would receive medical treatment.

Meanwhile, the Kosovo police, KPS, confirmed that the incident took place but offered no other details, while the Albanian language daily Express, published in Priština, said that four persons were hospitalized.

Unofficial information and statements from the locals said that an armed group of Albanians crossed the administrative boundary and attempted to illegally cut trees. They then attacked the Gendarmerie patrol that was nearby.

Local official in Merdare Časlav Milošević told Beta the shooting lasted for half an hour, and added:

"There was shooting like there was a war. From multiple kinds of weapons. Beside individual shots, there were also bursts of fire. The local villagers are very upset and frightened."

Reports also said that this was "the third armed incident in the village in the past ten days."

Last night, journalists were not allowed access to Borovac for safety reasons.

And this is not something new:

Timber thieves in Kosovo go to woods armed:

LEPOSAVIĆ -- A representative of Serbia's public forest management says members of EULEX and KPS came under attack when they tried to prevent illegal felling of trees.

Mile Vukojević, of the Srbija Šume-affiliated Ibar-Leposavić company, stressed that massive timber theft was one of the most serious problems they were faced with in this area of northern Kosovo.

The incident happened on Tuesday in the village of Borčani, in the Leposavić municipality.

Vukojević explained that timber theft was "pronounced toward (ethnic) Albanian villages", located close to the Podujevo municipality.

"The woods are destroyed and damages worth millions are incurred," he told reporters on Wednesday.

Vukojević also explained that the Forestry Administration does not control most of the territory in question for security reasons, and added that timber stolen there was later transported toward central parts of Kosovo.

"In this way, somebody is earning millions while we suffer great losses. We are trying to, via relevant institutions, to prevent the illegal felling," he stated, and added:.

"We tried on several occasions to go to the field and make a record of, and prevent the illegal felling of trees, while the incident that occurred yesterday was the result of our attempt to prevent that."

The company also addressed the KPS and EULEX in written form, requesting assistance in the region around Mt. Šatorica and in the direction of Podujevo:

"We knew this was a risky terrain and that people who were stealing timber were armed. During yesterday's incident, shots were fired toward the KPS and EULEX, but also toward our service."

There were no casualties when the incident took place on Tuesday in the area of Mt. Šatorica, located between the municipalities of Kuršumlija, Podujevo, and Leposavić. The persons who attacked the officers remain unknown.

The KPS said that the shooters were timber thieves. A tractor was seized during the incident, along with a semi-automatic rifle with 30 bullets.

Ibar-Leposavić company worker Dragan Antić was present at the scene during the incident. He on Wednesday told reporters that on Tuesday they found ethnic Albanians from Podujevo in the woods, stealing timber:

"When they spotted the police they managed to escape. Their tractor was confiscated, along with chainsaws and even weapons. They managed to move away some of the tractors because they learned that we, and the police were coming."

He also explained that many tractor trailers loaded with felled trees were left behind, while shots were fired after the police seized one tractor.

"The police responded in kind," said Andrić, and added that both the forestry company workers and members of the police were exposed to "great danger" yesterday.

The property in state ownership of the Republic of Serbia in the territory of Kosovo and Metohija amounts to 24,500 hectares of forests, and arable and building land.

K. Albanian timber thieves shoot at police:

KURŠUMLIJA -- Ethnic Albanian timber thieves from Kosovo on Wednesday afternoon opened fire on members of the Serbian police Gendarmerie in the village of Mačija Stena.

The village is located near the Merdare administrative line crossing between central Serbia and Kosovo.

According to Toplica Forest Management Company Director Nebojša Mihovilović, nobody was injured during the incident.

The thieves escaped across the administrative line, traveling in the direction of the town of Podujevo.

They left behind a chainsaw, which the police confiscated.

"By the time the Gendarmes arrived, they had illegally felled 200 trees," Mihovilović explained.

Lately, ethnic Albanians from Kosovo and Metohija have been invading areas of villages along the administrative line, carrying firearms as they set out to steal timber.

The villagers who remain in their homes in the affected area do not feel safe, and often organize night watches in order to protect themselves.

So, why not fence that area or at least build a few check posts there?
That will help in taking timely action against the perpetrators. Also now that they have personally attacked the Serbian gendarmerie ,those guy must take it seriously.Build few check posts there with communication equipment and couple of barracks may turn out to be very much discouraging for those thieves.

The ground security zone extends along 384 kilometers of the administration line and covers the area of total 1,920 square kilometers. Units of the Second, Third and Fourth Brigades are placed at more than 20 camps and checkpoints in the zone. Plus the gendarmerie and regular police units backed by two main bases in that area (Military base South, and Gendarmerie base Dobrosin). But it's not easy job to cover all that area:

As you can see from the pictures of the gendermery in the ground security zone, it's not an easy area to control, lots of hills, forest everywhere.... And EULEX and KPS (Kosovo police force) dont give a **** about armed people crossing administrative border. They are also periodically shooting from the other side of the border on our control posts, and patrols...

Guard killed thieves...

And why this is posted here???

They are not guards, they are elite part of the Serbian police, And why shouldn't this be posted here. This part of the forum is called "Europe and Russia". Last time i checked Serbia was in Europe. And it's certainly more military related, than many other topics in this part of the forum.

You are right , that is a tough terrain you've got there.May take a lot.But still i think partially fencing the area and a partial patrol along with the check posts in close proximity( at each kilometer may be) can help to decrease the success rate of these events.

Fencing like this ,not just couple of barbed wires.

borderfencing_zps7a268be7.jpg

Plains can be fenced, forests can be manned.(as your images show)
Pine is precious. But not more than a human life.I can see that the relations between the two of you have just recently got to some level of engagement and it'll take sometime to build the trust.
So, did your guyz given their representatives a diplomatic status now?
If the stage has already been reached, then why not raise this issue of this offence diplomatically?
May save an amount of money, some headache ,few bullets and some lives.

Oh just ignore it...:)
Even a discussion on the geography couldn't clear that.

@proka89 what does a normal serbian think abt kosovo??it being an unrecognised independent country,do u have plans to take over it??

Serbia does not have plan to take over Kosovo with force. First of all, we are not some kind of monsters as western media presented us, that is all just a bunch of propaganda, with a purpose to demonize Serbs and Serbia. But we wish, and we will protect interest of the Serbs and Serbia on Kosovo. There is still around 150 000 Serbs in Kosovo, and they are practically living in ghettos. They are constantly under attacks of the Albanian majority, and first of all that has to stop. In the last 10 years there were around 1000 Serb civilians killed on Kosovo, and not a single one Albanian civilian was killed in Serbia, and there is probably between 100 000 and 200 000 of them living right now in Serbia. There is also a question about Serbian private, church and government property on Kosovo which is huge. Also there is a question of our cultural heritage on Kosovo. Almost all Serbian graveyards on Kosovo are destroyed. Around 150 churches and monasteries are completely destroyed, Some of them centuries old.
Things like this have to stop. Our government has shown a good will in the past few years, and we have shown, that we wish to solve this problem peacefully, but we are not a bunch of fools that will give all for nothing.

Whole Kosovo will never be a part of Serbia again only the north with a serbian majority nothing more what do you want to do kill/throw all Albanians out?

I agree. But the problem is that western countries are bunch of hypocrites. They will say Kosovo have the right to be independent and separated from Serbia, but at the same time they will say, north part of Kosovo doesn't have the right to stay in Serbia. Is that right? I would say no.
