SEOUL, April 2 (Reuters) - North Korean nuclear weapons act as a deterrent to potential aggressors and as a foundation for its prosperity, the country's leader said in a speech delivered on Sunday and published in full by the country's KCNA news agency on Tuesday.

"Our nuclear strength is a reliable war deterrent and a guarantee to protect our sovereignty," Kim Jong-un said in a speech delivered to the central committee meeting of the ruling Workers Party of Korea.

The speech appeared to emphasize a shift to economic development and accused the United States of seeking to drag North Korea into an arms race in a bid to create obstacles to economic improvement. (Reporting by David Chance; Editing by Raju Gopalakrishnan)

I would hereby like to ask, politely, Kim Jong Un and his leadership members, to return to a state of peace. Your current rethoric and warmongering is unbecoming a civilized leadership.

Your claim on that island that has been in South-Korean hands for a long time, makes no sense whatsoever. You'd probably place missile installations there, encroaching on South-Korea's sense of security.

I understand you're young and fully energized to defend your own home country, and feel you have to honor your father's ways by copy-catting them. But think what you could do if you focussed on your own internal prosperity? With organic farming, you're not depended on foreign shipments of chemicals to sustain your crops. With solar power, you don't need to build vulnerable nuclear reactors. Without a space program, you are much better able to feed your own people.

Think not of what you can change in your enemy, think only of how you can improve your DEFENSIVE CAPABILITIES.

Instead, I see y'all hoping for a war. Or a reduction in sanctions? Perhaps you should make a public statement to be picked up by western mass media, about what you want in the end game. Make a wish list. I'm not kidding. A WISH list. Not a "demands" list!

I'll eagerly await your next move, North Korean pups.

how many of us would love to live a life his citizens have. the term deterrent means defensive in nature. he is threatening every other day to use it as an offensive weapon.
