With F-35 coming in 2017, this project has no prospect. It would be too expensive to operate two kinds of stealth fighters, never mind the development cost. Plus, politics won't allow another stealth fighter to compete with F-35 sales.
KFX is much cheaper compare to F-35. Beside that, KFX role is similar like F-22 and USA will not export that plane. And by seeing China can make one, of course SK will try to make it as well. If China can make it, SK and Indonesia, who has better previous product, should have more confidence in making this stealth fighter.
Indonesia and South Korea actually are still continuing the program since the postponing of the second phase of the project. PT Dirgantara Indonesia set up a team consisting of 100 engineers to focus on KFX/IFX program in Indonesia. I hope South Korea and Indonesia will get benefit by the postponing. By the way, the second phase is about to begin inshaALLAH as two parties (Indonesia/South Korea) has agreed to start the second phase this year.

Indonesia intends to continue development work on the Korean Fighter Xperiment/Indonesia Fighter Xperiment (KFX/IFX) combat aircraft, despite the programme being stalled by the South Korean government.
Following meetings with the Indonesian Ministry of Defence about the programme on 6 July, the country's state-owned aerospace company, PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI), said it was getting ready to undertake the second stage of the aircraft's development.
"Currently PTDI is preparing to enter the second phase of the programme, namely the engineering-manufacturing stage … so when the programme resumes PTDI is ready to implement the technologies," said a company statement.
It added: "The first stage of the programme - the technology development stage - was successfully carried out for 18 months and ended in December 2012."

Which design is finally decided? So many designs I have seen in past two years
how you possibly know the price?
KFX will be in far fewer numbers than F-35 which means it wont get the benefit of mass production the same way that the F-35 has. more over SK salaries arnt so far below the US that it would make a meaningful different in price, add to that the international parts SK must import to finish this project. i would say it would most likely end up costing more than the F-35(whose price is still dropping), assuming they even finish development.
futhermore, which SK jet is supposedly better than a chinese j-10b? SK has not, to date, ever developed a fighter, it operates only american jets such as the f-15 and f-16, its best domestic offering is the t-50 which is mainly a trainer. china otoh has a fully intact development chain, which may not be as advanced as the american one, it non-the-less has the full capabilities from start to finish. futhermore, china has far more funds(like an order of magnitude) than SK (and Indonesia combined) to spend on any 5th gen project. add to that the fact that any chinese development will be cheaper, due to salary difference and the fact that china manufactures everything which provides an industrial advantages in cost and expertise(think ESA T/R units which china can now make better and cheaper than russia due to its hugh electronics sector).

The news is too old to some extent as half a year has past. Any new update?
The price of KFX has already been set, it is around Su-30 current price. Even if there are only 200 planes being produced as promised by both countries (150 SK, 50 Indonesia), but I believe that Indonesia will buy at least 100 within 2020-2030. You will know it by comparing the project cost between KFX and F-35. Parts is not something that make F-35 so expensive......but it is because the project cost that is to high because several reasons.
South Korea T-50 has been considered by so many countries that put quality at first like Israel, Singapore, etc in their bid, eventhough only South Korea, Indonesia, Philipin, and Iraq that really bought it. It is not just a trainer, it has become a fighter as well. For example Indonesia T-50 has AESA system on it, and can carry sidewinder as well.
Indonesia CN-235 has been seen as a quality turboprop plane that is used by so many countries. By having experience in using fly by ware system at N-250, Indonesia has a capability to understand how to use it at unstable plane (Fighter plane like F-16). Comparing Indonesia and China transport plane, the world know who is better. Making/designing a new fighter plane is not something difficult for any engineer that have already design experience. Just ask any aircraft designer if you have channel on them. We also have called Indonesian engineers that has experience working in western aircraft industries to work for KFX/IFX. Not many country that has a good capacity in designing a plane, to understand it, I can say that if India has good IT engineers and famous in that world, so Indonesia is good at plane designing and has so many aircraft engineers working in western countries, including many in Boeing. We can make a plane since 1945-1949 period when we were still at war with both Dutch and British.
you must be joking, the price has already been set? lol the plane isnt expected to have a first flight until well after 2020, that is if there is no delays, are you think they can already set the price in concrete? lol you must be the most optimistic person in the history of the universe, or just really delusional.
so your telling me that the T-50 trainer/fighter is better than the full range of fighters the PRC has developed? again you must be the most optimistic(delusional) person in the world if you think the T-50 stands half a chance in hell if its going up against a J-10B 1 on 1. and frankly china also has T-50 class plane, in the form of the L-15
Can we just sitting down and waiting if this project get a nice result or not?
