RAWALPINDI: In a major breakthrough, agencies have arrested a key member of the terrorist outfit involved in the Parade Lane massacre
The Islamabad Ppolice have arrested Muhammad Asghar, son of Ghori, while a massive hunt is on to nab two of his aides. Intelligence sources told The News that the two alleged terrorists at large are studying the Shariah Law in the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI).
The arrested terrorist, son of a Grade-18 officer of the Federal Ministry of Information, too, is a student of a local educational institution. He played a key role in facilitating the terrorists by providing them the car bearing registration number HK-506-ICT, used in the Parade Lane Mosque attack.
Investigators got hold of an important lead when they found a pre-paid cell phone scratch card lying in the car used in the attack. The investigators tracked down the phone number (to which the money was transacted to replenish the balance), which belonged to Jawad, son of Aunty Saraj, a well-known activist of a religious movement. The investigators checked the list of calls made from the cell phone and tracked some calls to a car dealer based in Mardan, NWFP. The name of the car dealer was also Jawad Kha, who disclosed that he was asked to send three non-customs paid vehicles to Islamabad and one of them was sent to Aunty Sarajs home. The car was later used in the attack on the Parade Lane Mosque.
When the police started raiding the suspected hideouts, Jawad disappeared and his family expressed ignorance about his whereabouts. Also, two sons of Professor Raja Ehsan, a teacher, were also involved in planning and executing this attack. Another young man, Hasan, student of a local college, has also been detained in connection with this attack.
This group of young men was also behind the disappearance of a young student of University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Taxila, Mohammad Adnan, son of Ghulam Rasool. It was found that these people motivated and sent Mohammad Adnan to Afghanistan for Jihad from where he never returned. An FIR in this case was registered in the I-10 Police Station on the complaint of Mohammad Adnans mother, Mrs Zahida Rasool, under FIR No: 227, dated August 15, 2009. The mother says this gang has been threatening her to withdraw the case or face elimination.
