Kevin Steele next Biman MD

DHAKA: Kevin Steele, former General Manager (Sales and Revenue development) of British airways, is going to be the Managing Director of Biman Bangladesh Airlines.

Biman has already finalized it’s decision to appoint him as the state run airline’s Managing Director.

Kevin has over 25 years experience in aviation sector.

Biman authority will appoint him in the first week of January 2013 if both sides can reach an agreement regarding salary and other allowances, Biman sources said.

A video conference will be held with Kevin at the end of the month to finalize salary and others allowances.

Sources said everything is all right to appoint Kevin as MD, if Biman can afford salary.

Kevin served as General Manager in British airways over 10 years. He worked for Etihad airways as head of world sales.

Lancaster University’s MBA holder Kevin is now working as Senior Vice president of Arik airways.

On 24th May Biman authorities gave a circular in four national dailies for the post of new MD. Last date of submission for application was on 30 June.

A total of 42 aviation experts from home and abroad applied for the post.

Nine persons, all are foreigners, have been selected for interview to appoint as Biman Bangladesh Airlines’ new MD. But no Bangladeshi aviation expert has been included in this short list.

A selection committee of Biman, led by Khorshed Alam, Secretary for Civil Aviation & board of director of the national flag carrier, has finalized the list.

Finally, the committee selected three persons for interview while Kevin topped the list. Biman authority is very much interested to recruit him as MD due to his long carrier in aviation sector.

Farooq Khan's Summit group is much bigger than Biman. He doesnt have time for civil aviation churi.

Appoint him and give him the authority to do whatever he need to restructure Biman. Priority get it in shape to make money. BD can't afford to buy loads of new planes. Make do with whatever we have. I would rather have a smaller but profitable Biman in the short to medium term and then divest and float it as a true private concern. Then put in place strategy to grow.

The government has no business being in the aviation sector. Let it stand on its own and it will become a self financing cash cow for the exchequer.

.
I would say one of the best decision ever made about Biman.

On a sidenote, pretty soon he'll find out what it is like to work in BD framework.

He is up for some serious rude awakening.

Privatizing Biman is the way to go. We have a lot of failed government institutions in this country, these socialist BAKSAL policies need to change.

He and his summit loot bigger amount but he has to let other loot from Biman. Even Awami Kangaroo supreme court judge loot from Biman by forcing automatic upgrade of ticket to first class when he bought economy class ticket.

Good news.

I think if the government did want to loot from Biman, then appointing a foreigner, a western in particular and not just any westerner but from Britain a very powerful country is a strange way to act.

I think this signifies a genuine desire to improve Biman.

Hasina will probably be out in 12 months and Steele will work under the probable Khaleda administration.

Trust me, that happens in every government level

Its a shorkari airlines, you can do anything you want. I have sat in the cockpit from Dhaka to London:lol:. I have never gone for checking at Zia Airport, i fill my bag with whatever weight i want and just send it :lol and show up an hour before the fight:. The whole airport is messed up. After Biman gets the brand new boeings i am gonna fly biman just so that i can try smoking from london to dhaka, lets see what the authorities can do . Hell! last time i had 15 thousand dollars on me flying from dhaka to abu dhabi, the custom officer randomly selected me to check my bag, he saw the cash, i smiled and he let me go, of course i had to tell him about someone i know. ZIa Airport is a funny place where everything goes.
