Kerala Corner

^^ and people ask why Hindus are getting radicalized in Kerala.

the radical groups are strong in mappila muslim strongholds coastal region from ponnani to north parur and aluva, muvattupuzha surrounding regions. they are strong in cochin and northern travancore region like never before.

There is no reason for Muslims to get radicalized in Kerala and if they follow this path, other communities will also follow suit and they have no right to play the victim card then.

“Over 60 per cent of the terrorism-backed posts being uploaded on the Internet and social networking websites are from Dubai. Several people in Kerala propagate these posts through e-mails or by sharing them. There are also uploads from Pakistan. In Kerala, most of these posts are being shared by the activists of these extremist groups in Malabar. They also have a good base in Kerala as most of their funds come to the state via Dubai. These groups mainly target social networking sites,” the IB official said.

Northeast exodus: rogue SMSes traced to HuJI, Kerala group

Cyber security agencies have apparently detected the hand of radical groups, such as the Popular Front of India (PFI) in Kerala and Bangladesh-based Harkat-ul-Jehad al Islami (HuJI), while tracking SMSs that led to the exodus of Northeast people. They have been tracking SMSes — not all

troublesome — from all sources. Of them, more than 60 million were sent on August 13 alone.
Cyber experts say it would be difficult to trace the route of these provocative text messages because hackers normally use third-party servers.

They also bounce the SMSs through several countries to avoid detection.

But they have been successful in detecting forwarding of bulk messages going viral from Bangladesh groups and PFI activists.

Some of the messages hold out communal threats of retribution for alleged atrocities on Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar, a community in the Arakan state linked with Bangladesh, traditionally backed by Islamist and jihadist groups, such as the HuJI.

The Arakan state, in west Myanmar, lies on the route for supplying guns to Northeast insurgents through Cox's Bazaar, in Chittagong in the past.

The HuJI, formed by former Bangladeshi jihadists who took part in the Afghan civil war, was involved in the attack on Sheikh Hasina, now Bangladesh PM, in 2004.

The agencies, monitoring Facebook and Twitter, are also examining the possible role of the Hindu radical groups and the underworld.

The PFI, under focus with the HuJI, is largely a Kerala-based outfit, and had a role in chopping off the hand of a professor for alleged blasphemy in 2010. It was formed on December 9, 2006, after merging the Karnataka Forum of Dignity and Tamil Nadu-based Manitha Neethi Pasarai.

In February 2009, the Citizen's Forum (Goa), Community Social and Education Society (Rajasthan), Nagrik Adhikar Surakasha Samiti (West Bengal), Lilong Social Forum (Manipur) and Andhra Pradesh-based Association of Social Justice were taken into its fold.

Inheriting the operational core of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India, the PFI has a cadre of 80,000 radicals, spread over Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh West Bengal and Manipur.

Even though home secretary Raj Singh has largely put the blame on Pakistan, experts are equally convinced of internal sabotage and are trying to find out who gained from the exodus.

The State Special Branch and the Intelligence Bureau have raised concerns that Dubai has become the cyber capital for propagating extremist ideas in India.

According to details collected by the Intelligence Bureau Cyber Wing, the majority of religious sentiments expressed in posts and uploads is coming from Dubai and is being propagated through their activists in India.

According to an IB official, most of the extremist posts that have been creating enmity between various religious communities were posted from Dubai. Intelligence agencies suspect that the ISI is behind these activities. “ISI is active in the cyber world. They have hacked several Indian websites. The political parties suspected to be behind the fake SMS case leading to the people returning from the north-eastern states have secret links with the ISI,” the IB official said.

However, it is hard to arrest these people though intelligence agencies can track down people operating from other countries in the cyber world. “Arresting them is beyond our jurisdiction, but we can identify and book the people, who propagate these ideas via e-mail and Facebook in India,” the IB official said.

The Kerala police Internal Security wing has collected details revealing that many Internet uploads provoking religious sentiments are mostly from the northern districts in the state. However, there is a decline in the trend in the recent months.

An Internal Security wing official said, the parties supporting the extremist activities find it easy to operate through the Internet. “We are on the drive to track down the persons who uploaded such content in the last three months. Most of these uploads came from the rural parts of Malappuram, Kannur and Kasargod. But such activities have declined as intelligence agencies in the country are frequently monitoring such activities,” the official said.
