Keeping big cats as 'pets', a growing trend in Pakistan

In Pakistan, keeping lions or tigers at home is a growing trend, flouting rules and safety regulations. The wild animals are seen as a status symbol in the country. Politics and lions often go hand in hand, with politicians buying big cats to symbolise their power. But now, even ordinary citizens are latching onto the craze for keeping wild lions as pets, often putting the animals in cages.

India is a weird place. Politician keeping lions for popularity. Is it popular in India? Does Modi have lions too?

Endangering people as well as the animal.

Because we refuse to call feudal system for what it is: an autocratic, racist, enslaving and all round socially and culturally devastating system that along with religious clergy is responsible for the current rotten state of Pakistan.
Both its progeny and supporters are a cancer to Pakistan.

What's the solution/remedy?

There needs to be regulation like food, medical inspections and living space for such animals, other than that I would want one too.

I am trying to get one here in US but due to regulation I heard cost could be upto $100,000/yrs to keep and feed big cats.
