NAB DG Kausar had also threatened others with death
The threats hurled at late Kamran Faisal by the Director General (HR) National Accountability Bureau (NAB) were not the first of their type as reliable evidence has emerged which shows the said DG had also hurled similar threats to other people as well.
Just a day before his mysterious suicide, Kamran Faisal, NAB investigation officer in Rental Power projects (RPPs) scam, in response to text message of his friend inquiring his location, had responded on Jan 16 as: WITH DG HQ. He continued: DG HR WANT AFFIDAVIT IN BACK DATE REGARDING CHANGE FROM CASE. In the same message Kamran sought the friends opinion: KIA KARUN (what should I do?).
A similar threat was also hurled by DG HR to one Amir Ahsen Khan, the person who helped the former Chairman Ehtesab Bureau, Senator Saif-ur-Rehman to recover Rs3 billion of corruption money form a strong group. Since last 16 years Amir Ahsen is running from pillar to post to get his reward money promised by the government but he has received only death threats.
When Amir pushed for his reward money, he was called by the NAB DG HR in his office and was threatened of dire consequences if he did not withdraw his claim. A similar threat was also hurled at Kamran Faisal as was evident from his last text message.
Amir Ahsen has now sent his written statement to The News which is self-explanatory. It says: A meeting was held in NAB Head Quarters Islamabad with the then DG FCIW Mr. Kausar Iqbal Malik on 11th March, 2010 at about 11 PM to 1300 hrs. Kausar Iqbal Malik emphasized and pressurize me to withdraw my claim of reward amounting 30 million with reference to a corruption scam I had unearthed and the recoveries made by Ehtesab Cell and NAB subsequently. In this meeting Kausar threatened me for dare consequences and pressurized me to leave Islamabad immediately. Kausar Iqbal Malik called three security staff members in the room who sat next to me and pushed me with force and manhandle me. Kausar abused me and told security personal to take me to Islamabad airport and make sure that I do not miss next plane to Karachi. Kausar told me this was the last warning for me or my name will be amongst the missing persons and my family will also face the dare [dire] consequences. I am ready to appear in front of the Supreme Court with reference to late Kamran Faisal suicides case.
It is worth mentioning here that the dubious DG HR of NAB is a Petarian and basically a senior executive vice president (SEVP) of the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP), who was sacked from NAB as well as the NBP but always staged comebacks and is illegally continuing in NAB for more than eight years now.
According to a State Bank of Pakistan inspection report in 2010, the DG HR used his influence to get his house hired by the NBP on very high rate and in violation of policy while he himself was SEVP in the NBP.
While talking to The News before Kamran Faisals death, the DG HR had said that he would fulfil his duties in NAB impartially and would concentrate on his real work of catching financial frauds.
The News tried to contact the NAB DG HR during the entire week on at least six mobile numbers that he uses. SMS messages were also sent but he never responded.
