Kashmir ultimate issue to be resolved between India and Pakistan: U.S. - People's Daily Online October 23, 2010

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton (2nd L) and Pakistan's Foreign Minister Mahmoud Qureshi (1st L) attend a joint press conference after their bilateral meeting during the third U.S.-Paksitan Strategic Dialogue at the Department of State in Washington D.C., capital of the United States, Oct. 22, 2010. Crowley told reporters at the department that the ongoing U.S.- Pakistan strategic dialogue is focused on expanding bilateral relationship, and of the 13 working groups relating to the dialogue, none is on Kashmir. He said that "the United States' policy is clear: we believe that this is an ultimate issue that has to be resolved between India and Pakistan."

The two South Asian neighbors have fought three wars, two over Kashmir, since their independence in 1947. Pakistan has called for a U.S. role in resolving the dispute, while India has been vehemently against a third-party mediation into the issue.

Crowley said that the United States has great concern about human rights violations in Kashmir. "We talk both to our Pakistani friends and our Indian friends on this issue on a regular basis. We would like to see the situation in Kashmir resolved," the spokesman said. "There's obviously too much tension and violence in Kashmir, which is the way we continue to encourage, you know, both countries to resolve it through dialogue."

U.S. President Barack Obama is scheduled to visit India in early November and go to Pakistan in 2011.

.
Obviously why any one intermediate between two parties.Even anyone will ready to mediate It is not gona happen .

.
This has been the Indian stand all along.

No mediation is needed. It has been over 60 yrs and we are still suffering the ill effects of the last ' mediation'.

.
if Pakistan refuse to cooperate with USA in the war against terrorism than USA will resolve the Kashmir issue
but our leaders cannot do this because they are corrupt

.
yes Pakistan can make a trade-off between War against terrorism and kashmir issue

no way man, WoT is your war also. how you can forget, how many people they have killed in pakistan?? that is now your war. if US leaves, it would be dangerous situation for pakistan, forget how they came tantalizing close to islamabad?? WoT is the question of your survival. you are behaving like a neutral party.

This is the exact problem in Pakistan. There are people dumb enough to believe that war against terror is just America's war, How many years does it take to understand this cancer will consume Pakistan if unattended?

There is no one in the world who is on Pakistan's side on Kashmir. Not US, not UK, not Europe not even China. Not even your own Mushraff who was wiling to support LOC as border (Singh-Musharff formula)

Focus your effort internally to get rid of safe heavens.

Stay out of the state of Kashmir and for making the issue clear that you will not interfere as a mediating party, thanks. We know how to solve what is ours by right.

A word to the wise (read Human Rights hawks); human rights is for those who behave like humans and not support barbaric terrorism. The latter get the bullet; a simple global law as that.

Good post..

Resolve Kashmir issue? If the Yanks had any leverage with India to do so, they would have resolved the issue in your favor in the 50s or 60s. Even now - what do they care? If Kashmir goes to Pakistan and it helps them win the WoT - they would give you Kashmir tomorrow. But how the heck are the going to convince India? And if the Americans are not going to force India's hand - what makes you think Pakistan can?

Kashmir issue can be resolved as follows.
1) Let agitation continue for 1 years, let more people get injured or dead. Put maximum strength.
2) Keep it boiling till it reaches the max. daily clashes, daily deaths. (Maybe 1000 injuries and 20,30 deaths a day)

See at the time 2 things will happen.
1) Either India will budge and leave Kashmir.
2) Or Kashmiri will realize that they cannot get anything no matter what.

So realization will set in and then they can understand if they live in peace there is actually no issue in Kashmir or they will get parted.

So it makes sense to let it burn more and more and reach maximum, so they can decide what they want to do.

Neither will India budge, nor will a certain section of the Kashmiris. I recently spoke to a Kashmiri Muslim from Srinagar - he told me that people miss the last few years when tourists were pouring in and it was all quiet and peaceful. Even the locals are shocked at the scale of what is happening.

Dude for this to settle one side has to give up. So lets reach the height and then see. I do not think India will give up but after 1 year of protest death and injuries people will relaize they are not heading anywhere. Right now what is happening is that somehow seperatist feel they have a chance.

Also I suggest that we should go back to bullets instead of just silently taking stones. Stone throwers should realize stone will come back with bullet. I think we send the wrong message by being silent. It is wrong. Violence should be dealth with bullent. Plain and simple, make it a norm stone throwers will get a bullet in return.

Dimag thekane aa jayega jaldi hi.

Raj,
Easier said then done, honestly I am all for love, in my entire life I have not harmed anyone and neither I have any such intentions. The problem is I feel that while India is doing lot in Kashmir we are not getting any response and sometime harsh steps are needed. I am all for good steps if it gets result, but if people just resort to stone pelting and violence sorry I cannot empethize with them.
