One of the most iconic image of 1971 war, showing shot down Sikh pilots of the Indian Air force in one Pakistani POW camp alone......
Considering Sikhs are only a minority, it's not difficult to conclude how many majority Hindu pilots must have been shot down or for that matter pilots from other minorities such as Muslims and Christians and who are kept prisoners in other camps.... all this is even more astonishing when the Indian MOD claims that most of the air battles took place over India.....also not counting the IAF aircraft that were destroyed on the ground.
For their part, the Indians went as far as painting the wreckage of one of their own MiG-21 in Pakistani colours and put it on display.... so much for the credibility of one of the largest air forces in the world.
Pakistan, Lyalpur camp, 12 April 1972, visit to Indian prisoners of war (POWs).
"Sikh pilots, now POWs, passed their time flying kites. Camp authorities forbade this activity. An "homme de confiance", also a POW, explains the visit of Red Cross delegates, emphasizing that he hopes the ICRC can negotiate on their behalf the return of the kites."
IAF MiG-21 painted in PAF colours and displayed by the Indians, in their bewilderment, the Indian propagandists even failed to notice the serial markings familiar with IAF fleet of MiG aircraft.
At least they don't lynch them for eating their diet.
