Joe Biden is reportedly planning on visiting the UK as his first trip outside North America as US president.

Biden will come to Cornwall in June for the G7 summit, however he is also now planning on visiting Boris Johnson before this date to set the foundations for a renewed Transatlantic special relationship.

There had been some concerns in Downing Street before November’s election that Biden may not warm to Johnson over his role in Brexit and his relationship with Donald Trump.

Biden is also known to be proud of his Irish ancestry and publicly warned Johnson last year that there would be repercussions if he breached the Good Friday peace agreement in Brexit negotiations.

However, a source close to Biden has told the Sunday Telegraph that the president-elect wants to forge a strong relationship with the Prime Minister and his government.

A UK government source said the UK would be second on Biden’s list of trips outside the US, after Canada.

This has sent a shock through the EU considering many heads of state thought he would visit Brussels to make a point. These short sighted folks don't also see the growing divisions taking place.
The US/EU trade war is now more voracious than ever, and no, it precedes Trump and is part of US policy to protect their interests. Funny times indeed.

Disputes over steel tariffs, tech taxes and airplane subsidies will not be resolved overnight: after four years of deep freeze, the best that officials hope for is a slow thaw.

“Expecting a big bang on trade under Biden is unrealistic. Buy America will still be there.
The tariffs will not just disappear,” said an EU official working on trade. “A success might be just no new conflict.”

“They are rivals, sometimes with confrontation, when we are threatened and hit by American sanctions.”

Hosuk Lee-Makiyama, director of trade think tank ECIPE, said the United States was unlikely to award Europe a “free pass”, noting that countries that had offered concessions to have their tariffs lifted could complain if Europe won better treatment.

The next big dispute coming down the path is over digital services taxes, which Europeans want to impose on global tech companies that now pay little tax in the countries where their customers live.

Although international negotiations are under way on the issue, France has already introduced a levy on online revenues, and the EU says it will unveil a similar policy for the entire bloc from mid-2021 if the talks fail.

The best prospect for an early rapprochement may come in a dispute that pre-dates Trump, a 16-year-old quarrel between Boeing and Airbus over state subsidies, which led to retaliation from both sides. Sources have described high-level negotiations under way as “substantive”.

It was mentioned that he would visit Ireland, his forefathers came from Ireland

Of course he will visit Ireland , the land of his fore fathers. Biden has warned Johnson and UK that a trade agreement with UK is down a very very long list of priorities and the Biden govt has very serious concerns about Brexit and its affect on the peace process on the island of Ireland.
An agreement will happen EVENTUALLY but this is going to be very very different than the one touted by Farage and the Conservatives. Johnson will accept ANY the awful terms offered by the US as it is his govt that has gone around banging the drum of a US-UK trade deal over the past few years.

He will have to swallow the slow poison that Brexit will deliver.

Poor Johnson could not make it to India's republic day due to Covid so he trying his best with Modi by inviting him to the G7 in Cornwall. He is desperate for a trade deal with India and is going to suck up to Modi at the G7.
