TOKYO, Dec 22 (KUNA) -- Japan's top oil refiner JX Holdings Inc. said Monday its subsidiary JX Nippon Oil & Energy Corp. has signed a memorandum of understanding with state-run Vietnam National Petroleum Group (Petrolimex) to buy its shares and build a new 200,000 barrels-per-day (bpd) oil refinery.
Under the agreement signed Friday in Hanoi, JX is entitled to exclusively talk with Petrolimex, the Vietnam's biggest petroleum products sales firm, on the construction of the refinery in Van Phong economic zone, southern Vietnam, the Tokyo-based company said in a statement.
Currently, Vietnam has a refining capacity of only 150,000 bpd against a demand of 350,000 barrels. Kuwait is also building a 200,000 bpd refinery in northern Vietnam in a joint project with Japanese and Vietnamese partners. (end)

Congratulate~~
Another good news,I heard this morning from Chinese web,is that Vietnam minimum wage by law will grow more than 20% from 2014 to 2015.
Hope such development can make more Viets richer, but I suggest you'd better pay more attention to protect environment (don't act as China,we cost too much).

Vietnam applied too low basic wage in the past, same as two low poverty line.
The adjustment just make everything appear more reality than before.

The retirement salary would be increased a little, the market price would grow up too.

For worker : income = basic wage ++

Regrettably, Vietnam follows the chinese example and pollutes like crazy, factories build clandestine hidden underground pipes that discharge pollutants and waste into rivers, etc. Even state owned companies do things like that.

Yeah, we must reduce the cost , so our product can compete wt China products. But VN dont have so many factories like in China while lots of people still working on agriculture sector, so, VN is still not so dirty and polluted like in China.

True, Vietnam should follow Thailand's example and concentrate on tourism as their main focus

Is this another Japanese form of ODA?

Nothing justifies pollution. Pollution has a hidden cost that gets paid later and in the end, cheap becomes quite expensive and lets not forget the health aspect, the people that die prematurely because of pollution, cancer because of chemical pollution, etc. Try to tell those people that it was necessary in order to reduce cost.

Tourism is increasingly more important, but it can never be the main focus. In Thailand, which has a big tourism focus, tourism is just 10% of GDP.

In the past,Chinese workers take the same treatment, too.Society usually follow usual way in development.
We should do the hard and poor work firstly and gov get enough tax to invest in education, technologies, ect. Then on our industries become more competive and people's treatment become better.

I dont think you should worry about such problem,China has a famous saying "only development can solve problems which come from development".As you known,China has so much problems now such as pollution, economic inequality, corruption and so on,but we have solve much more problems such as national poverty, poor education system, low level technologies, ect in the past.

If Vietnam keep reformation and take active part in international economic cooperation, you will maybe become next Singapore and such problems become no problem at one day.

Maby it's hard to avoid such period.Low-end industries are shoulder by shoulder with pollution. Many developed countries suffer from same routine in the past.

I said already, JP keep pouring ODA to VN in order to get the share in VN state owned companies like Oil-electricity companies, so now, they got what they want (got the share in oil company).

But its a bad time to get the share coz oil price is too low now.

If we dont cut the cost, many worker will lose their jobs and die bcz of No money, too. So, it always has some VNese die in this way or that way, but jobless people cause more trouble than people got cancer.

Sure, state owned companies that treat the waste from industrial zones, but instead of treating it, they just dumped the waste into rivers or in the forest, they still charge the full fees for treating the waste, but they pocket the money and then others get the health problems from that.

I think part of the problem is people that seem to accept or try to justify those situations, so in the end nothing changes.

Ah, then its abt corruption, I admit that corruption in VN is bad and normal people r powerless to go against corrupted official. But the good thing is that state owned companies like oil companies r dying bcz of low oil price.

I hope US can keep the oil price below 40 USD, so Vietnam state oil company and other companies will die faster , then those corrupted officials will die too :pop:

The Vietnam oil company (state owned) is always ripping off the Vietnamese people increasing rates in full as soon as the international price of oil goes up. but either not reducing or reducing the price only a little bit when the oil price goes down, that's how we are in this situation where gasoline in Vietnam is so much more expensive than in USA and of course the government can see that (same as everybody else), but they don't lift a finger to help the people.

Waiting for foreign oil companies to start to do business in Vietnam, something that the state oil company firmly opposes (no wonder why).

Our leaders r good at fighting even in extremely hard situation, but they r very stupid in running bussiness. They will put themselves in big trouble soon if they keep running bussiness like that. JP think that they r so smart when getting a share in our state owned companies just by keep pouring ODA to our corrupted officials, so now they lose money ,too.

The day to get easy money for corrupted official in VN r number as long as the US can keep the oil price below 40 USD/ barrel. I hope to see a strong VN who defeated might USA-China raising from ash again :)
