The victim has been identified as Gift Lawrence Jane(28) from Brisbane. The accused, Sharanabasavaraju Shivangowda, is a native of Raichur, and is currently doing his BE from PESIT engineering college, Bangalore.

The police arrested Shivangowda and produced him before the court on Saturday. He has been remanded to judicial custody.

Kirankumar, Sub-Inspector, Gokarna police station, told Express by phone on Sunday that the victim had been taken to the forensic laboratory at Mangalore to undergo a test. He said that the forensic report was yet to arrive.

The Australian couple were staying in a lodge near the beach for the past two weeks.

According to Jane, Sharanabasavaraju, who had come to Paradise Beach with his friends four days ago, tried to befriend her.

On Saturday, noticing that Bernal was away from the room, Shivangowda molested and raped her.

Sharanabasavaraju was caught when Bernal rushed back to the room upon hearing the screams of Jane. He was later handed over to the police.

This incident is the first of its kind at Gokarna.

The isolated beaches near Gokarna, including Om Beach, Kudle Beach, Paradise Beach and Honeymoon Beach, are a favourite with the foreign tourists.

The tourists, who flock to Goa, spend a few days on these beaches. They usually stay in private houses or in specially built cottages. Though the tourists start departing after the New Year, a few stay on till the commencement of the monsoon.

Agra: Three held for tourists' rape, cops up ante
Brijesh Pandey, CNN-IBNPosted on Sep 24, 2007

Agra/New Delhi: The police have arrested the three suspects in the alleged gang rape of two Japanese women in Agra. Raja Thakur, Rajan Raees and Deepak were arrested after a complaint was lodged by the two tourists that they were raped on Saturday night.

Police claim the three lured the Japanese tourists on the pretext of getting them cheaper accommodation and then allegedly raped them.

Police say two of the suspects - Rajan and Raees - own handicrafts shops while the third, Sunny, worked as a salesman.

Sunny, who was fluent in Japanese had befriended the tourists.

“After befriending them, they took them to hotel where they had food and drinks and then they raped them,” said Agra DIG, Kamal Saxena.

However, all the three suspects have denied the charges. The incident has sent shockwaves across Agra, but tourists in the city have put up a brave front

The Agra police are now opening new checkposts and helplines to deal specifically with cases of sexual assault.

Meanwhile, the state government has decided to set up a special tourist police station in Agra to take care of tourists visiting the Taj city, Uttar Pradesh's Principal Secretary (Home) J N Chamber was quoted as saying by news agencies.

He said police personnel well versed in English would be posted in the special police station, half of whom would be women.

Besides the police personnel, a tourism official would also be posted at the police station which would be equipped with computer and internet so that tourists could utilise the facility.

Such incidents happen all around the world, what i meant was that the thread doesn't changes into a usual bashing thing, rather some civilized discussion about the cons should be discussed and what affects it leaves on the country of happening and other stuff associated with that.

New Delhi A young Nepalese woman was allegedly raped by three persons in the national capital after the man who promised her a job abroad abandoned her, police said today.

The 21-year-old woman was raped allegedly by three persons in east Delhi's Mandavli last night after an auto driver Vinod (24) dropped her there though she had asked him to take her to Mukherjee Nagar, a senior police official said.

The woman hailing from Kathmandu had reached the capital on July two with one Manoj (24) who promised her a job in Kuwait and took her to Indira Gandhi International Airport yesterday and abandoned her there.

Manoj had taken her to Mukherjee Nagar on her arrival and yesterday, he took her to the airport saying she can board the midnight flight to Kuwait. However, he disappeared soon after they reached the airport.

The woman could neither find her name in the list of passengers nor she was in possession of a ticket, the official said adding that she then took the autorickshaw of Vinod and asked him to take her to Mukherjee Nagar.

However, Vinod allegedly took her to Mandavli and promised her a better job and other facilities.

He took her to the house of one Avdesh, another auto driver, and told her that she would be safe. Later, Vinod allegedly took her passport and other belongings and left the place.
