That's quite a ship, without derailing this thread, what exactly is the task of such a ship, which has been called a "helicopter carrier" in the coast guard?

I never understood this kind of ship, while impressive, it blurs the line between navy and coast guard and that completely defeats the purpose of a coast guard.

Maritime interdiction duty is the prime duty. Indeed, we are building 3 more ships of this class.

The coast guards ability to do things is severely limited for the simple fact of being coast guards.

I guess this be more useful in anti piracy and search and rescue missions or something.

I would have thought more smaller vessels works better in covering a larger area, but maybe not.

These ships have the capability of OPVs, but their role is for coast guard duties, search and rescue in the arctic, western pacific, sea of japan zones.

For official OPV roles, the Japanese Maritime Self Defense Force tasks that to the ships of the Shimayuki Class:

Displacement: 4,000 tonnes
Length: 430 feet (130 m)
Beam: 44 feet (13.6 m)
Draft: 15 feet (4.5 m)

Propulsion: 2x kawasaki rolls royce, olympus TM3B gas turbines, 45,000 shp, 2xrr type kawaski RM1C gas turbines,

Speed: 30 knots
Complement : 200 sailors

Woooow.... That's almost the size of a Destroyer ma... I guess these will soon start to patrol Senakaku...

and these will be utilized during war time,.. fit some more fire power and its gonna be send to fight as a destroyer...

Yes, they do a host of maritime interdiction, search and rescue duties. These are the largest ships in the Japanese Coast Guard, and there are many other classes (smaller in size, of course) that make up the Japanese Coast Guard Fleet. Hundreds more.

The future of warships is VLS system that can fit all kinds of missiles, this is done to improve stealth. So no need for leaving room, can't install VLS launch systems later or at least very difficult even if it can be done.

Ya dude... but i think given the size of the ship don't you think the weapon systems could be fitted when in need??? i think so.. and the same we're doing with our CG and OPVs

no, if that were the case, those 100,000 ton cargo ships are beasts. Maybe if it were designed for it maybe, but I do know one ship that can sort of do it, and it's very difficult.

Even if you do put weapon systems on their the ship is not built for stealth, because it's a coast guard ship, it's presence is part of the power. Falklands proved how those ships are.

Russia's putting everything on a ship is done due to budget, and out dated ideology. The type 52D is smooth, because the VLS does everything.

Putting launchers on it not only doesn't help, but it makes it less capable.

Also putting a coast guard ship into combat is bad idea. The AEGIS ships are the ships of today, and that ship cannot be converted to one.
