Kyocera Corp will install one of the world’s largest floating solar power plants in Kato City, Hyogo Prefecture.

Kyocera TCL Solar LLC, an SPC (special purpose company) jointly established by Kyocera and Century Tokyo Leasing Corp (TC-Lease), will build the mega (large-scale) solar power plant by procuring a “floating mounting system” from France-based Ciel&Terre International. The construction of the plant is scheduled to begin in September 2014 and be completed in April 2015.

A floating mounting system is a floating structure used to install solar panels on the water. Ciel&Terre’s floating mounting system, “Hydrelio,” is made of high-density polyethylene, which is resistant to ultraviolet light and corrosion, and 100% recyclable.

The Hydrelio was developed by Ciel&Terre, which now owns patents on it. And at least one of the Hydrelio mounting systems installed in France has already been in use for more than three years. Its strength design and connecting technology enable the system to withstand even typhoons.

Kyocera TCL Solar plans to engage in the construction of floating mega solar plants by using Ciel&Terre’s floating mounting systems. For its first project, it will start to build solar power generation systems whose total capacity will be about 2.9MW on two ponds in Kato City, Hyogo Prefecture, in September 2014. According to Kyocera, the mega solar plant that will have an output of about 1.7MW and be built on one of the ponds will be the world’s largest solar power plant floating on the water.

Great. Anyway not exactly floating but similar projects are being implemented(almost done) here in Vadodara, Gujarat. Actually govt is covering canals with solar panels all over in city.

. .
We also have a solar power facility but it is in Negros province and it isn't floating. Anyways, if the PH government just have the political will, we could build something similar to this solar power plant in Japan as the nuclear option is in the back-burner and the reliance on coal is not cost-effective.

A good decision by the State of Gujarat !
Yeah as govt don't need to acquire lands. Gujarat govt is implementing this on around 1100 miles canal network which will eventually produce 2.2 GW electricity in long run( enough for more than 3000 thousands houses). Hope other Indian states follow similar concepts.

This is cool!.

I wonder if this is economically feasible. It looks like huge investment for electricity.
In Thailand, there are also some companies doing solar farms.
As my (rough) calculation, it is not feasible to deploy solar farm, --unless-- one could get high output Solar cells for long period of time in much cheaper price.
My calculation shows that if the conditions are not met, the cost of an electricity unit will be higher than the government sale price.

I'm not sure about this project's profitability. It even looks higher investment because of floating platform + Japan lower sun light intensity.

go home or Chinese language forum. What a guy !!

We want this plant too. How much is it?

wonderful job to use clean energy i sure turkey will go for it too we have a lot of mounties :d
maybe u could do the same for all of turkic states for example turkmenistan is best option for using clean energy

Congratulation to Japaneses for heading in the right direction, i take it they are trying to shut down nuclear reactors and trying to find alternatives.

ON the other hand pakistan is way ahead of any country. All of our power plants promised by politicians since 1947 are in Air :omghaha:. Beat that !!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

Come on man...do not be pessimistic....South Asia and its polotician are very unique...They promise more and we should expect that the possibility of happening is 10% of what they commit...Then you will not feel sad..:)

Unpractical. Also the core of what makes it floating is the French mounting system.

Good. With global warming and sea level rising, people should focus more on developing techs allowing human to live in either floating cities or underwater cities. Bioshock anyone?:yahoo:
