Japan rightists hold Diaoyu fishing contest

Conservative political groups from Tokyo yesterday held a fishing contest in the waters near the Diaoyu Islands to demonstrate "Japan's sovereignty over the islands," a move that analysts called a stale, politically motivated trick.
Six members of the Japanese Congress and more than 40 members of political groups took part in the activity starting 10 am, which involved 16 fishing boats, according to ribenxinwen.com, a Japanese news portal.
Members of the budget supervising committee of the Japanese House of Representatives are expected to deliver a representation on their inspection to the islands today, and Shintaro Ishihara, governor of Tokyo, will also be invited to explain his purpose to purchase the islands, said the report.
