Tokyo, April 22 (Jiji Press)--Iris Ohyama Inc. said Wednesday that it will increase its face mask production in Japan to 150 million units a month in response to supply shortages caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

The Japanese household goods supplier will increase its face mask output at its plant in Kakuda in Miyagi prefecture, northeastern Japan, by 2.5-fold from its initial plan, starting June.

It will also introduce equipment to make nonwoven fabric to the plant so that it can make face masks from scratch in Japan.

Currently, Iris Ohyama produces face masks at two factories in China, shipping 80 million units a month to Japan.

The production in Miyagi will boost the company's face mask production capacity to 230 million units a month.

Excellent decision. Every non-Chinese vendor should move production out of China, ASAP. There are many reasons but first and foremost is that producing goods in China helps China's economy, enabling the power of the Communist Party of China. The Communist Party cannot be trusted to create a fair, honest and peaceful member nation of the world community. Until China has some semblance of democracy, its government is illegitimate and not worthy of the trust of democratic nations.

The free market is dynamic. Any void left by Iris Ohyama Inc leaving can/will be fill by another company. If Iris Ohyama Inc can make more masks in Japan then it is good for everyone as the world is lacking masks now.

For example,

A mask factory build by BYD:

a Chinese electric car company, in 7 days.

It produces 5 million masks a day in bid to supply shortfall

So, Iris Ohyama Inc can be easily replaced.

The Japanese haven't made a single sound strategic decision since late 1980's when the U.S. fvcked them with the Plaza Accord. Their problem is that they don't know who they are and what they can do. A people of 100 million dwindling down population, with zero natural resources and surrounded by water, somehow always believe they are somebody and can throw their tiny weight. They manage to piss off both of their important neighbores over and over.

Yes, leaving China, their closest and biggest market is going to wonders for their economy. They probably are thirsty of cow piss now. How is their 0 interest, all promise no action high speed rail project going on over there?:azn:

Japanese economy has been dead since 1990s.

China and South Korea have fully taken down the Japanese economy with low cost alternatives.

No one cares what Japanese do. They are totally irrelevant today.
