@Carlosa -- looks like a positive sign in agricultural trade relations between Japan and Vietnam; any news of further agri and fishing exports from Vietnam to Japan? I remember reading early last year that Japan has now begun importing Tuna exports from Vietnam. Any other input from @Viet , @BoQ77 and other Vietnamese members would be great and widely appreciated. Love seeing the growing agri trade relations between our two countries.

A Japanese businessman inspects Vietnamese farm produce.

Speaking at a forum organized by the HCMC Hi-tech Agricultural Park last week, representatives of 12 Japanese firms said that they are seeking to transfer advanced farming and processing technologies to Vietnamese partners. They will also cooperate with local firms in exporting products to Japan.

While many Japanese firms have invested in manufacturing and services in Vietnam, cooperation in agriculture and technology transfer between both sides has yet to match its potential.

Tu Minh Thien, deputy head of the park’s authority, said technology transfer in the agricultural sector is still modest. Vietnam’s agriculture has yet to attract many foreign investors despite its huge potential.

The application of information and communications technology (ICT) in the agricultural sector remains meager, making it hard for the sector to improve productivity and boost export. Therefore, cooperation with Japanese firms will help Vietnam cope with these problems, Thien said.

Nguyen Tri Dung, general director of Minh Tran joint venture, which helps promotes technology transfer between Vietnam and Japan, said now is the right time for Vietnam to apply advanced technologies to raise productivity and improve product quality.

At the forum, Japan’s Syudensya Co. announced a US$1-million technology transfer to the Hi-tech Agricultural Park to make micro-organic fertilizer from agricultural byproducts.

Yes, I've seen a few articles about Japan cooperating with Vietnam in agricultural projects (mainly in Da Lat and the Mekong delta), setting up Japanese style facilities based on Japanese standards, etc, etc. This is a win win deal. Da Lat is actually the top place in Vietnam for fruits and vegetables, top quality, 1500 meter altitude so they grow many things that can only grow in that area. Its also a flower producing center and they are just now setting up a Japanese style flower market. They export a lot to Japan.

Japanese is growing rice in Northern of Vietnam, transfer the harvesting way of tuna, grow inhouse tuna ... to Middle land of Vietnam, ...
I have the imagination that Japan find Vietnam as the base for their safe food.
Do you use Binchotan @Nihonjin1051 ? Vietnamese is making that type in mass for Japan market.

You are referring to --備長炭-- yes? If so, of course, every Japanese prefers to use this when cooking specific dishes such as unagi or yakitori. 備長炭 Is very delicate and the way it was created is due to the fineness , when it is used it does not release odors that ruins the flavor of the food being prepared, that is why it is expensive and it is a unique Japanese product. I didn't know Vietnamese were transferred this technology , but if so then that's great. You bet we will be buying this product from Vietnam; as it is essential in traditional cooking :).

As for Tuna, hehe. One of the biggest a imports Japan has from Vietnam is fish, specifically bluen fin tuna, and something Japanese can't have enough of , lol. Also abother big big favorite is sea bass, and swordfish. :)

Bring it on Vietnam!

On a serious note tho, Japanese are increasing agri imports from Vietnam. Good quality I guess since it passes our stringent requirements ! Just please don't ever start using GMO !

I like Japanese literature. I hope more Vietnamese people can get to know more about Japanese literature.

Whats wrong with GM foods? With so much of humanity starving, some people have no option but to plant the most fertile and resistant crops for food or cash.

As for me, I eat anything that isnt meat. Some days I eat my favorite breakfast cereal for lunch and dinner, something I wont ever change even after Im married.

Vietnam just approved GMO for corn and soy, courtesy of US pressure.

Are you vegetarian?

Quite a bit of testing has been done in Europe for GMO and some of them show DNA mutations after eating GMO stuff, etc. Give an animal 2 food servings, one natural and one GMO and they will not touch the one with GMO.

Agreed. I personally don't trust genetically altered food , as there is the risk of health issues along the road. This is the very reason why Japan has been against further expansion of imports from American agriculture. And we will not yield on that aspect, NO to GMO!

That's one of the big issues with TPP which is actually a troyan horse to impose American standards on those other countries.
