Their politicians may be able to make such statements, but I strongly doubt the general Japanese public has the will (or the stomach) to shed blood for Taiwan (or for anyone else) except to defend themselves... 75+ years of US pacification has totally pacified the Japanese martial spirit... Their SDF may have 1st rate equipment and training, but not their civilian population.. They are a peaceful and pacifist nation with a docile (and shrinking) population now.. they (including JSDF) are simply not psychologically prepared to fight for such a conflict..

Any Japanese participation in the defense of Taiwan will at most be limited to providing money, remote surveillance, intelligence, SAR..

Japan should worry more about N.Korea who repeatedly threaten to wipe Japan off the face of the earth, Japan is nobdoy in today's global geopolitics, US can withdraw from Afghanistan today and can leave Japan to neighboring nuclear powers tomorrow.

On top of that Japanese have a aging population issue and their economy has been weak since the 1990.

Japanese simply does not have the capability or capacity or resources to fight a war to defend Japan let alone to defend any other nation.

Japanese are all just hot air. They just need to be ignored. They will be shown their place when the time comes.
