The Indian Army said that it successfully foiled an attempt by a Border Action Team (BAT) of the Pakistan Army on the night of July 31 in Keran sector, Jammu and Kashmir.

Army has foiled an attack by Pakistan's Border Action Team on a forward post along the Line of Control in Keran sector of Jammu and Kashmir, killing five to seven intruders, according to a defence spokesman.

This is the first major infiltration attempt since the February 14 Pulwama suicide car bombing in which 40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawans were killed.

"Soldiers [Indian Army] foiled the attempt inflicting heavy casualties on the infiltrating BAT team,"an Army official said.

"A BAT attempt was made on one of the forward posts in Keran sector [in Kupwara district] and foiled by alert troops resulting in neutralising of five to seven Pakistani regulars/terrorists,"defence spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia said.

Border Action Teams (BATs) are small units made up of Pakistani special forces and militants who conduct raids across the Line of Control (LoC).

Cross-border infiltration came to a halt after the February 26 air strikes carried out by the Indian Air Force (IAF) on a Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) training camp in Balakot, Khyber-Pakhtunkhawa province in Pakistan.

"Four bodies of Pakistani Special Service Group (SSG) commandos or terrorists had been seen on the Indian side of the Line of Control in close proximity of Indian posts," Army sources said.

These fresh infiltration attempts assume significance in the light of the government's decision on Friday to call off the Amarnath Yatra and asking tourists to leave the Valley.

The decision followed the discovery of attempts to attack pilgrims and the discovery of a US-made sniper rifle, improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and a landmine with Pakistan Ordnance Factory (POF), were recovered close to the yatra route.

The announcements were preceded by the induction of over 28,000 paramilitary personnel into the Valley, leading to rumours and uncertainty.

"Search operations and attempts to recover bodies are being continuously interfered by Pakistani troops deployed in the area," Army officials said. "These activities by Pakistan establishes Pakistan's complicity in terror activities to disrupt peace in J&K," Army officials added.

Army officials said that there has been a desperate attempt to revive terrorism and push terrorists from the Jaish-e-Mohammed and other terrorist groups in Kashmir.

In the last four days, four terrorists have been killed in the hinterland.

So like I asked? At this point, which Kashmiri leader and group isn't considered a pawn. Be it pro Pakistani, pro Independence or in favor of remaining in union with secular India, they all are considered pawns by India. And when they all, including the citizens regardless of their pledge, unite to defend their identity, that's how you know you're the one in the wrong here.
