Srinagar: The Indian Army has cornered a group of terrorists in the forests near Zachaldara village in Handwara area of north Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district. A fierce gunbattle is on between the troops belonging to 21 Rashtriya Rifles assisted by police and the terrorists.
The Army launched the counter-insurgency operation following reports of the terrorists hiding in the forests. No casualties have been reported on either side so far, Army spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel JS Brar said.
As the soldiers closed in on the location of terrorists, the ultras opened fire. The security forces retaliated, triggering a fierce encounter.
Five Lashkar-e-Toiba terrorists were killed in the same area on March 28.
