Jamaat 'internal matter' of Bangladesh: Pakistan

Pakistan has washed its hands off the men who fought and committed atrocities to protect it in 1971.

The Pakistan Foreign Office said on Friday that the punishment meted out to Jamaat-e-Islami leaders in Bangladesh was "strictly its internal matter."

But the Foreign Office spokesman refused to elaborate.

He dwelt at length on issues of bilateral ties with India, on the Kashmir issue, about US drone strikes and much else -- but not one word about the war crimes trials which relates to atrocities perpetrated by Pakistani troops and their local collaborators.

Pakistan has never formally tendered an official apology for the mass murders and rapes its troops were involved in during the 1971 Liberation War -- though some public figures in Pakistan including cricketer-politician Imran Khan have said that was necessary to set the record straight.

Bangladesh says nearly three million people were killed and nearly half a million women raped during the 1971 Liberation War.

The Jamaat-e-Islami supported the cause of 'united Pakistan' in 1971 and opposed the Bengali liberation struggle.

Its local leaders and activists joined vigilante auxiliary support forces created by the Pakistani military junta.

These forces -- Razakars, Al-Badr, Al-Shams -- perpetrated some of the horrible atrocities during the 1971 war.

Top Jamaat leaders have been sentenced to death or life in prison for their involvement in the mass murders, rapes and other crimes against humanity by the two war crimes tribunals of Bangladesh, which were set up by the Awami league-led coalition government after it came to power in January 2009.

Many more face trial for similar charges.

Pakistan has finally abandoned the BD Jamaat when it need that country more than any time in the past. The International tribunal is giving death verdict to almost all its old leaders who killed innocent Hindus and educated Muslim Bangalis in 1971.

However, as usual, these people are crying for Pakistan in this forum. It is very strange these guys still feel so much love for their fatherland.

However, the latest declaration should propel them to say Tauba towards Pakistan.

oh bhai please, why are you bringing in Pakistan into this, if Pakistan says something it will start another diplomatic uproar from bd , you know very well that Pakistan has a different perspective on this matter, but still Pakistan has kept out of this, so please solve your internal issues among yourselves, & please stop bringing Pakistan into this, the Pakistani members do not want to be involved in a flame bait with the bd members, if you don't like Pakistan well & good, but please stop provoking Pakistan in every thread

Mr. Flip-Flopper, no need to play your broken record. Tu ekta besharm. You have been using Pakistani platform to spread your venom against Pakistan like an ehsaan faramosh. If you even spread fraction of such hatred toward India in their forum then they would have kicked you to curb. Perhaps, you deserve such treatment.

Al-least some of us true to our believe. We believe in brotherhood in Islam taught by our prophet(s.a.a.w). We do not hide like coward. We are here because we like to hang among our brethren. Why don't you take a hike and spend some time with your cultural pagan brethren.

hey... welcome back from ban. so whats your view? should pakistanis put pressure on bd to spare jamatis?

Members of Jamat Islami in Bangladesh are Bangladeshis by origin. Why do you want Pakistan to interfere?...so that your mutki banihi t-rst get more reason to fool innocent Bdshis that Pakistan is spreading its influence in Bdsh?

Pakistan has long ago accepted Bdsh a separate country, why drag Pakistan in all your issues.

Your mutki trst & Courts are dragging Pakistan's name for a while forcing Pakistan to respond. I think Pakistan has respond smartly else it would give a reason to mutki t-rst to fool innocent Bdshis again.

P.S Pakistan is free country & everyone has right to protest. If JI is protesting in Pakistan against Bdshi govt that's nothing new as it has protest against Israeli govt in the past too for their actions against Palestinians. In free countries protests are common.

BD JI don't have any love lost relation with PAK. They opposed BD in 71 from an ideological and political POV and then moved on , accepting BD unlike bakshali low lives awami maggots. And why should PAK bother with this? Should they say the obvious like this is a farce trial (which it is) and flame a situation they have nothing to do about. Any awami sake addict bigot trying find correlation between the 2, is living in his sinking awami boat detached from reality.

A news paper doesn't represent the stand of PAK gov. Is that too hard to comprehend by chappati leaguers?

@Al-zakir

Pakistan should not interfere in Bangladesh's domestic affairs. We don't support any political party in Bangladesh, its your country, you are the ones who need to take decisions that you need to take to move your country forward.

Pakistan gov did the right thing to leave it to BD....JI(BD) had some hope that Pakistan gov would do something for them.JI(PK) held a rally in support of JI(BD) but the Pak gov's response was correct.
