THE HAGUE: Deepak Mittal, a joint secretary in India’s ministry of external affairs, avoids shaking hands with Pakistan’s Attorney General Anwar Mansoor Khan and responds to the greeting by clasping his hands prior to the hearing of the case at the International Court of Justice on Monday.—AFP

India’s envoy to the Netherlands Venu Rajamonyon, too, refused to greet Pakistani officials in kind. However, this came as no shock to the Pakistani officials who had witnessed the same withdrawn and curt demeanour by the Indians at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in May 2017.

According to Geeta Mohan, Foreign Affairs Editor at India Today, India is angry, and this sets the mood. Till late Sunday evening, the Indian officials were eager to reach out to their Pakistani counterparts to ensure no overlapping of logistics or shared hotel accommodation for the two delegations; offering to relocate in case the Pakistani delegation had already set camp in the hotel of choice. Keep in mind, this is the first official confrontation between the two countries post-Pulwama attack, albeit in robes, lawyer versus lawyer.

Why do Indians have to stoop to lowest of the low in such intl' forums, in full media glare just to appease their hardliners and extremists and win political mileage, some basic courtesy and decent gesture would have been welcome...

This is lowbrow and lowlife...by India.

Why was there a need to shake hands in the 1st place? Why cant we admit that India is a hostile country and Indians need to be treated as such. We are there to convict an Indian national who is involved in terrorism and killings of Pakistanis, was such a gesture needed by the Pakistanis? Certainly not. I hope this serves as a wake up call and we begin to see Indians for who they are and not what we want them to be.

Reminds me of Musharraf and vajpayee episode.

Indians showed their anger. I didn't see any disrespectful behavior here

Musharraf did shook hand with Vajpayee, going towards him to shook hands...this is not about showing anger...you need to respect your enemies as well, shaking hand is a basic courtesy, a basic decorum...even in wars there are some rules of engagement...

India has failed to answer yesterday, Indian lawyers has failed to answer all the six questions before ICJ.

Forensic report of UK based firm has proved infront of ICJ that jadhav passport is real with fake identity/name and it was designed inside India.

Indian lawyers are jock, note down that ICJ remarks and verdict cant be in favour of india because india has failed to prove anything to save jadhav.
Indian are really pathetic because whatever their govt feed them. They always eat sh!t & lie.

It does not matter for the world what india thinks about Pakistan's courts and justice system there is no right for spy in any constitution of world even not in vienna convention that can grant access to consular neither any constitution of the world can declare any other country justice system as unlawful just to save spy.
indians are living in a heaven of fools. Justice cant prevail according to indian wishes.

Nothing to shake hands there, we are not there to conclude any business deal, nor to settle on an understanding. Our aim is to save one of our innocent brother who has been wrongfully convicted by the military regime.

Cheap and lowbrow what you call classy...Indians hasn't got any.

They don't have to prove each and every time they have no courtesy and certainly no class.

They were using the traditional Namaste.

Where is the lack of class in that?

The message was clear.

Hame aap logon se is waqt haath nahin milana hai.

Cheers, Doc

It is just optics. Should have shook the hand - what difference does it make. Pak also wanted to show that - hey - we can be friends. India - is like - no, not right now. Both were aiming for optics in front of media. Let's see what happens in Jadhav case.
