What's new

Jaag Punjabi jaag

well, an operation in Punjab would do us more damage than all-the-bombs-blasts-in-the-last-ten-years-combined.

1.it would inspire a new generation of such organisations' members.

2. the sheer size of machinery needed to be mobilized for such an operation against even a small city or a few larger villages, would mean a lot of extra financial burden on national kitty.

3. it would still remain nearly impossible to eliminate or nab a large number of targetted "terrorists", as Punjab is a vast and densely populated place.

4. political implications for the ruling parties would keep them awake more than a few nights.

5. as always with any major disaster or event-like-this, a general price-hike would be witnessed. this is something that would threaten the political parties with the masses all over Punjab coming out on the streets, and a somewhat mass scale public disorder.

So I don't think a military operation is even on the table for our planners. Rather an intelligence-based operation which would see possible "understandings" being developed among different sectarian groups, and some carefully chosen targets who don't fall in line (and that too by the naughty Punjab Police and the mighty Elite Force).

Sadly, that vision is nowhere in sight. The Pakistani state has used radical Islam as a weapon of war for over a quarter of a century. It now needs to swing completely the other way. And that cannot happen for as long as the likes of Shahbaz Sharif continue to believe that it is Rehman Malik, and not the Punjabi Taliban, that is tearing Pakistan apart.

Instead of blaming Rehman Malik , the onus is on Shahbaz Sharif to fight the unstoppable and ever growing militancy in Punjab who are also his voters. Harbouring militancy will not benefit Mr. Sheriff in the long run as he also needs to take note from history.

.
well, as far as blaming Shahbaz Sharif is concerned, i think we're being unfair here. there are more people dying every day in Karachi and yet it is only a 3-4 minutes "routine" news item. And no seems bothered now to blame Zulfiqar Mirza, or Qaim Ali Shah, or Ishrat Ul Ibaad or Rehman Malik.

targeting Shahbaz Sharif for saying that Taliban should not be associated with a Province or ethnicity, is a bit too much even if that is political scoring.

.
When we say Pakistani Taliban and Afghan taliban does that mean whole Pakistan or whole Afghanistan.

Actually our politician are those assholes who if you remember the Musharraf case made by Indian media that he accepted the weapons are being used against India and The true story was something else the PML-N and PPP assholes were even after knowing the truth was using it for political scoring. And telling how Musharraf is not good for Pakistan.

I know this story i wrote have nothing to do with current topic but its enough to prove that they dont care about country interest all they care about it their politics.

Aamir Ahmed khan now writes for E.Trib? I know him pretty well but havent seen him in a while. The last time I saw him, I had to carry him to my house as he was drunk like a skunk. He is a genius but messed up quite a bit. Never heard a person disrespect the Prophet ( s.a w) like he did.

Just wanted to comment about him after reading his name on the article.

Aamer now writes for ET. Read the first column he wrote for the paper... really random... in fact, randomness still has some method to it, it was worse. Not only is his drinking problem bad and his atheism in your face, but the fact that he can be obnoxious even otherwise.

The point he raises here is nothing new: he just kicks up the dust on forgotten leafs of history.

The PML's current electorate in urbanised and even rural centres of Punjab remains the conservative middle and lower middle classes who will connect with the Islamists (not necessarily the mujahideen/fidayeen) more than the Lahore Polo Club types.

A better contrast would be to see how the PML and the Jamaat-e-Islami have evolved over since Independence. If someone has the time (one of the researchers could do it), dig up their charters and compare where the parties stand today, the intra-party differences and analyse their breakaway factions as well.

It is asymmetric war fare. From the campaign in FATA who ever is conducting the "counter-insurgency" does not seem to have a clue about it. Scroched Earth policy, style devasting use of force is disastrous.

As far as Punjabi Taliban is concerned, it is watershed moment, they are no more confined to hinterlands, but have presence and attack in population centers.
