Sopore: One policeman was killed and four others were injured in a grenade attack by militants in the Sopore town of Baramulla district in Jammu and Kashmir early today.

The militants reportedly attacked the police during a protest. "Around 2:30 AM, the militants hurled a grenade and fired at a police party near the Main Chowk in Sopore when miscreants were pelting stones," a police spokesman said.

He added that five policemen sustained injuries in the attack. "One constable succumbed to injuries. Two injured cops were referred to Srinagar for treatment while the other two cops were being treated at a hospital in Sopore," the spokesman said.

No militant outfit has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.

This was the second militant attack on security forces in the past 24 hours in Kashmir. On Friday evening, a policeman was shot dead in the Anantnag district of south Kashmir.

RIP Policeman, May Allah bless you with Jannat.
These stone pelting low lives should be shot dead at sight. They are giving cover to militants.

RIP

Is it something to do, recent discrimination happening to Kashmiris, related to Ghaza and some Cricket Matches in university incidents? All related to new government and their new policies for Kashmir & Kashmiris? Or is it a plan to do same gujrat type of "Successful" operation to make things in same direction? What ever it is, it isn't right Path which India is following.

The sad part of this situation is that both the perpetrator and the deceased are probably both Kashmiris.

Should we start the same old discussion terrorist vs freedom fighter? Come on it does make sense if you try to read things between the lines. Two points I have made, and pretty clear, not sure why it doesn't make any sense to you?

1) Discrimination is leading people to go towards Terrorism a.k.a Freedom fight. Discrimination incidents like recent two killing on ghaza protest in Kashmir, incident like Kashmiri students were ask to leave when they were happy on Pakistan win? etc
2) Or this is the drama, same thing Gujrat type incident Modi want to happen in Kashmir to make sure Kashmir also progresses (as per him), since it's a successful model? (Here some of Indians who were supporting Modi were giving me Gujrat example, 2002 incident which made Gujrat what it is today)

I am not interested in the discussion mentioned by you... I call them terrorist... You call them strategic assets/freedom fighters.....

My point was, what is the current government got to do with it. Terrorists fired at policemen killed him, So what gujarat has to do with this? There is no change of policy between current and previous governments.....( Yes there was a comment made on on kashmir status by a minister but govt did not support it) What modi has to do with this incident? Did he ask the terrorist to kill a police men???? Your point would have made sense if there was a firing on a civilian or some civilian killed in an incident.....

I hope the injured protesters recuperate soon.

Curfew has been imposed on Tulmulla township following a clash outside the famous Khirbhawani temple. Deputy Commissioner of Ganderbal Sarmad Hafeez told The Hindu that the clash occurred after some people caught Zahoor Ahmad Sheikh of Saloora, a clerk at the office of Zonal Education Officer with a woman allegedly engaged in “an immoral act” on a day when government offices were closed on account of holiday on Jumatul Vida, the last Friday of the holy month of Ramzan.

The mob torched Mr. Sheikh’s motorcycle, attempted to set on fire ZEO’s office and began lynching the accused. Police took Mr. Sheikh into custody. Later, a larger crowd attacked the police post and attempted to snatch away Mr. Sheikh to “bring him to justice”.

This was one important point, because if not noted, the curfew could have been termed as act against freedom fighters....

India is unlikely to resolve Kashmir issue unless things go really bad outside the IOK borders. May be that is the plan.

RIP to the innocent lives lost.
