Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said Awami League leader Ivy Rahman was declared dead, on August 24 in 2004, immediately after the then prime minister Khaleda Zia’s departure from the Combined Military Hospital (CMH).

The prime minister came up with the statement while presiding over an Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC) meeting virtually on Tuesday, reports BSS.

Awami League leader Ivy Rahman was injured in a grenade attack on August 21, 2004. She succumbed to her injuries on August 24 that year at CMH.

Remembering Ivy Rahman, Sheikh Hasina said Khaleda Zia went to see Ivy Rahman after locking her off-springs -- Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Chairman Nazmul Hasan Papan, MP, his sisters Tania and Mayna -- in a room in the hospital for three to four hours.

She added, "The people do not know it. I reveal the matter to let people know how cruel they were."
The premier called upon the countrymen to pray for eternal peace of Ivy Rahman and others killed in the gruesome August 21 grenade attack.

Sheikh Hasina, also President of the ruling Awami League, said then BNP- Jamaat alliance government even wanted to vanish the bodies of her party's leaders and activists killed in the heinous grenade attack, as they did not want to hand over the bodies to their relatives.
“But the BNP government was forced to hand over the bodies to relatives due to constant vigil of the AL leaders and activists,” she said.

She added that the pro-BNP physicians even did not give any treatments to the people who suffered splinter injuries in the grenade attack.

The prime minister said she had arranged treatments for the injured people at home and abroad.
The Awami League president said that Bangabandhu Memorial Trust had arranged treatment for the injured people.

Sheikh Hasina said the trust is still giving assistance to the injured people and relatives of the deceased ones for their wellbeing.

She added that many of the injured people have already died while many others have become crippled and many are still leading miserable lives with splinter injuries.

Twenty-two Awami League leaders and activists were killed and over 500 others were injured and many of them became crippled for life in the grenade attack.

Then opposition leader and incumbent Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and other front-ranking AL leaders narrowly escaped the carnage.

Can someone tell us what is the relationship between Khaleda's departure from the hospital and the death of Ivy Rahman. I have read many times but could not quite understand what this Hasina Bibi wants to imply.

She wants to imply that Khaleda was behind the death of injured Ivy Rahman and somehow hastened that woman's death (in cahoots with the doctors or whatever). I am frankly surprised that she came up with this story which I have never heard before.

The grenade attack did a number to Hasina's Psyche. She barely made it out of that meeting alive. Lot's of AL stalwarts were lost in that event, major bigwigs. This event is as big to Hasina as the death of her entire family. She had to pay dearly twice.

I will ask something to all who think/ believe that Begum Zia and BNP are responsible for the 21st August grenade attack.

Can you guys tell me how Begum Zia can organize such a huge attack within a few minutes where 25 persons died unless it was organized by someone at the BAL top?

Why within a few minutes? It is because at the order of Hasina the venue of the Public Meeting was suddenly changed from the GPO Muktangan, for which all permissions were granted, to "Bangabandhu Avenue"?

This could have been done only by him/ her or those who had the authority to change the venue. Did BNP or Begum Zia change the venue? The answer is a big "No". So the responsibility lies on him/ her/ those who suddenly changed the venue and not BNP.

The purpose was to kill any or all BAL leaders except Hasina so as to raise BAL popularity. But, who can organize such a big operation? It was certainly by those who were able to arrange grenades and other weapons in/ near Bangabandhu Avenue. Could it be Tarique Siddiqui?

I ask people to tell us who had the final authority to change the venue suddenly except Hasina Bibi? For her, power is everything. It is no big matter a few dozen BAL leaders had to give their lives to satisfy her greed.

Police denied BAL request to hold the procession at said venue, then they shifted it to the place of the attack, a few hours before the attack police gave permission to host it in the initial spot but by then it was too late to call it off.

This is all well documented, suggest you read up witness accounts.
