In a bid to prevent our soldiers from falling prey to the freezing temperatures of Siachen, the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre in Thiruvananthapuram has manufactured the world's lightest material called silica aerogel or 'blue air'.

Sometimes also known as 'frozen smoke', the material manufactured by ISRO's research centre arm is so light that it can even be delicately placed on a flower head.

The indigenous creation can also hopefully be used in rocket engines for insulation. For our soldiers, the material can be used for insoles, thermal jackets, and even have purposes for window glazing.

I honestly dont get how that is going to keep soldiers warm.

Because the material is so light, you can have lot more layers of this fabric it will probably weigh less than a handkerchief hence, improving the agility and reducing weight the soldiers have to carry.

Their materials R&D wing have made titanium sponge, composite armor, military-ship grade steel, etc, etc. All of which are being churned out in good quantities. The armor of T90, or the military ship grade steel denied by Russia are replaced by their efforts. The materials R&D wing of DRDO is one of the most promising.

My close buddy is a part of this project. He had texted everyone to show how 'his' product had made the news.
It helps mainly for our soldiers in siachen. Furthermore it seems, this research's intended outcome is something else, for which the testing is going on, and I do not want to reveal it.
