ISRO Announces Plans to Launch a Record 68 Satellites in One Mission

wtf did they just announce?
Arre budde sathiya to nahi gaye?

any how best of luck!!

The military requirements for space utilization can be considered to be:
  • Communication
  • High resolution imagery (satellite constellation to provide frequent revisit data over regions of interest in normal circumstances; and rapid revisits and over theatre of interest for operations planning during times of conflict)
  • Navigation (target location and guiding weapon systems)
  • Meteorological data over region of interest
  • Signal intelligence (detecting communication, radar emissions and broadcasting signals)
  • Early warning

Its part of a new doctrine of ours where in times of a potential conflict , within the threat perception period prior to the onset of the conflict, nano satellites will be launched at one go and for getting them cover all our country and hostile territory as well. This is the usage of different level of information system collected from real time monitoring and filtering them in our C4I setup

Found this in SAC's 2014-15 annual report.

Why DRDO does not perform like ISRO ?

Maybe because DRDO has to compete with foreign equipment. TEJAS has to compete with su30mki, rafale etc. Arjun MBT has to compete with T90 and T14. DRDO not only has to accomplish but has to compete.

ISRO on the other hand only has to accomplish, it does not have to compete. It has to launch satellites on rockets with no competition. Rockets are only used once they don't have to compete like Tejas jet.

Primarily DRDO lags bcz of
  1. Chalta hai attitude and emphasis on chai biscuit culture (applicable to almost all DPSU, PSU & gov services)
  2. Inability of top management to focus on core competencies and prioritize projects in those fields.
  3. Lack of skill set and learning on managing projects and effective project management for greenfield technology frontiers
  4. Equal blame to MOD for inability to understand the challenges and Bureaucrats who cant understated head and tail of such projects, defence and technology.
  5. Our whole tender On and tender off process which does not enable a proper MIC planning to support DRDO and help them achieve better efficiencies.
  6. Bureaucratic red tapism when it comes to releasing funds on time and with a peanuts budget in R&D
Tejas competing with MKI and Rafale is a laughable proposition. The existence of all 3 are independent and all 3 are non replaceable by each other.
The comparison of indigenous products versus imports is actually the outcome of the above 6 points where bcz of every known reason project either failed or delivered a product which does not get supported by Bureaucrats owing to no understanding of the product in the first place. This coupled with Corruption angle creates delays and ultimately makes the product a dated technology.

Just for the record DRDO has been highly successful on Missiles. In a way we could have also imported few missiles under the cap of 300 km and be happy with that. But we did not and we succeeded bcz of a man called Frmr Prez A P J Abdul Kalam and his team who managed the Prithvi and Agni project much better than other things. That is the core competency of DRDO- Missiles. Today are doing N number of projects parallely so some may succeed and others wont.

OTOH ISRO focuses on its single core competency - Indian Space Program under PM directly and removing the babus which come in between. Thus from Satellites to unmanned missions to Launch vehicles is all it focuses and keep it evolving successfully. Such focused approach in core competency is completely missing in DRDO

Well, all PSUs at national level are at almost same pace.
ISRO catches more attention because there are very few countries to have an active space program, otherwise, where do our launch capacity and frequency stands against US, Russia, PRC, EU or Japan? Even in conducting missions, we have a lot to catch up.
Like we took more than a decade for Astrosat. Our space program too was slow for decades compared to countries who started with us (Japan and PRC).
Though ISRO is now performing good at making rocket engines, we need to understand that these are single use engines which are destroyed after launch.

DRDO also has a good record in making missiles' engines, so many types done and more will be there in future just like ISRO is going to come up with new LVs.
On the other hand, aircraft engines are reused thousands of times, during every flight of aircraft. So, more complex than Missile or Rocket Engines[/.
B].

Isro like the DRDO missile division had no other choice, no one was willing to help them, various sanctions were imposed on them and the only way to achieve their targets and progress to a space power was to work their asses off and do this on their own, while companies like HAL and OFB waste time and money, finally forcing to import
