Nairobi: Israeli forces on Sunday joined Kenyan efforts to end a deadly siege by Somali militants at a Nairobi shopping mall, a security source told AFP.

"The Israelis have just entered and they are rescuing the hostages and the injured," the source told AFP on condition he not be named.

In Israel, foreign ministry spokesman Paul Hirschson refused to confirm or deny that its forces were involved.

"We don't make a habit of commenting on security cooperation of any kind that there may or may not be," he told AFP.

The attack on the part Israeli-owned upmarket mall has left at least 59 dead and around 200 wounded, Kenyan officials said.

The intervention came 26 hours after gunmen walked into the complex, tossing grenades and spraying gunfire at shoppers and staff.

Somalia's Al Qaeda-linked Shebab rebels have claimed responsibility for the attack.

In this case, that is precisely what is needed. Oh and BTW, they are used to a lot more than just urban warfare. They have decimated the combined might of numerically superior arab armies quite a few times. They have eliminated the air forces of Syria and Egypt and other arab nations with ease. They have conducted precision strikes on Syrian nuclear plants in recent times. They have conducted the most spectacular and difficult hostage rescue mission of all time in Entebbe.

They have tackled everything - conventional, sub conventional and unconventional war, and managed to stay a free nation with equality and prosperity for all, while neighbouring Arab nations have all become mass graves, with domestic squabbles and fierce civil strife. Look at how Israelis live in Israel, and look at how Arabs live (if they manage to live) in their countries. Dictators and gas attacks, civil war and genocides. Arabs have killed far more arabs than Israel has, or ever will.

Anyway, without getting away from the topic - Israel is experienced in a lot more than urban warfare. By air, land or sea, they have outfought, outwitted and bested their enemies. Conventional, sub conventional, unconventional, desert - you name the kind of war they haven't done. OK, maybe jungle warfare and high altitude warfare.
