Israel launched an international diplomatic campaign last week aimed at putting pressure on Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and the new Palestinian government to assert its control over the Gaza Strip and take security responsibility for what happens there.

  Israel has systematically disregarded the will of the international community at every turn, it has and continues to renege on its previous commitments and undertakings and shows no inclination whatsoever of accommodating the establishment of a viable contiguous Palestinian state.   1. Netanyahu said he will not talk to this Palestinain government. Why should it care what he wants? 2. Israel has neutered its foreign service by installing the thug Lieberman as Foreign Minister and treating the staff worse than it treats benefits. Who is going to take that branch of its government seriously? 3. Israel's demonstrated lack of interest in acting from a position of strength for the past five years has weakened it diplomatically. Facing condemnation from the EU and a United States increasingly viewing Israel as a nuisance and not an ally, it needs to modify its own behavior before asking anyone else to modify theirs
