Israel's Ministry of Defence (MoD) has revealed the value of the country's defence exports for 2015.

In a statement on the MoD's Twitter feed on 6 April, head of the international defence co-operation department SIBAT Michel Ben-Baruch said that the country's defence companies signed export deals valued at USD5.7 billion.

The figure is relatively flat when compared with 2014's USD5.6 billion. However, both figures represent a continuing decline in Israeli exports that has been ongoing since a record high of USD7.5 billion was reported in 2012.

A more comprehensive breakdown of the 2015 figures was not available. However,IHS Jane's tracked approximately USD2.1 billion worth of export deliveries - comprising new and ongoing orders - from Israel in 2015, with India being the country's leading customer followed by the United States and Australia.

The news of flattened exports for 2015 comes after a number of Israeli companies expressed concern in a letter to the MoD in late 2015 about the potential for the final export figures to be below the USD5 billion mark.

Additionally, the Israeli government has been mulling over the possibility of adding cyber security exports to its list of controlled exports, due to the sensitive nature of the products. The proposal - first issued in late 2015 - met with strong feedback from the country's growing cyber security industry. The deadline for initial feedback was pushed back from early February 2016 to early March, with the government now understood to be evaluating the comments received.
