Adir, I have a doubt. Sometime ago, you had a tender for the KAI T-50 right? Which you refused in favor of M-346 from Italy as your lead-in trainer.

So is this deal for warships as a compensation for that loss or is it a new requirement that Israeli Navy has?

Also, where do you think your navy would place these ships? Mediterranean? Red Sea? or Arabian Sea (your submarines train with us in Arabian sea ).

Israel had a difficulty to close up the trainer deal with korea true but the navy try to buy ships because this is what is needed not in order to compensate korea.
Israel navy was neglected, most of the budget went to the airforce:
f35 f15 f16 uavs smart bombs air defance surveillance satellites and ballistic missiles aka jericho and new trainer
And infantry:
New line of merkava mk4, merkava apc, new artilay et cetera.
For the first time in israel history the doctrine that navy task is only for defance have been changed. Israel expand it's submarine fleets to 6 for and now we close to expand the number of ships we have.

The Koreans make good ships. And given both use NATO compatible weapons, and potentially cheaper than a US-made one, it's a good deal.

And that anger is not lost on the Korean side, because Koreans needed to build a T-50 sales history at every possible opportunity right before the USAF T-X contest, and Israel kicked Korea where it hurt the most.

But it doesn't matter, the USAF T-X KPP was released and the M-346 and BAE Hawk cannot meet it without a major reengineering due to a higher than expected sustained G rating. T-50's remaining competitors are now Boeing's proposed new trainer and Saab's Gripen trainer.
