An Islamic State affiliated Twitter account tweeted about the Chattanooga military reserve center shootings by Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez just as they began.
The account has since been suspended. The time stamp reads 10:34 a.m. in our screenshot of the tweet, which we took in New York, which is in the same time zone as Chattanooga. The shootings were reported between 10 and 11 a.m.
The tweet is similar to one sent out moments before two ISIS-inspired gunmen opened fire outside the “Draw Muhammad” event in Garland, Texas, in May.
The same account tweeted additional references to Chattanooga:
The situation was under control by about 1 p.m. The shooting spree started at the recruiting center on Lee Highway. The shooter then drove to another facility about eight miles away. The four Marines were killed there at a reserve recruiting and training facility on Amnicola Highway. The shooter was also killed on Amnicola Highway. Police have not said if the shooter was killed by police or killed himself.
