Uncle Sam is a notorious for destroying it's allies Industrial capabilities when it seems they would challenge Uncle's product Example IAI Lavi,CF-105 Arrow and last but not least Indian MMRCA deal which uncle wants to get,because it's a huge deal.

Rafale and Eurofighter have been doing pretty poor on the export market for awhile and even in the domestic market.

the bulk of F-35s are going to be for the U.S military.

question is could Europe develop an alternative if they decided to.
